Beach Hostels in Italy
1. Sunflower Beach Backpacker Hostel, Rimini
Sunflower Beach Backpacker Hostel is currently our only recommendation for a beach hostel in Italy. If you travel alone and want to find friends, this is a great place! This is the perfect place for fun, parties, and new acquaintances!
The hostel is only 3-4 minutes from the free beach in Rimini – yes, FREE beach. Many beaches in Italy actually come with an entrance fee.
The hostel has all the facilities you might need – a fun bar, big kitchen, pool table, chill space, laundry, plug sockets & personal lights in the beds, air conditioning, and free wi-fi connection. Generally, it has lots of nice touches around that show they’ve thought about how to make it the most positive experience. The staff is super friendly, multilingual, and helpful.
All the rooms are clean and many rooms come with a balcony – yay! The bathrooms are small but they squeeze in everything you need. The backyard is a nice extra. It is a great place to hang out in the evening.
Some days of the week they have Free Pasta Days (tasty and homemade, very delicious). It’s a great opportunity to connect with fellow backpackers.
There are lots of places to go, many clubs are within walking distance and the hostel just has a great vibe. So all in all, we recommend staying there, especially for solo travelers.
On that note, here is our guide to the best hostels Italy has to offer.

Beach Hostels Portugal
We love Portugal. And so, it felt fitting to include a few options spread out across the country.
- The Salty Pelican Beach Retreat, Monte Estoril
- Wax Hostel, Faro
- Aktion Ericeira Surf Hostel
Did you know? We collected the 27 best surf hostels in Portugal which are also definitely worth checking out.
1. The Salty Pelican Beach Retreat
The Salty Pelican Beach Retreat is not just a hostel, but a home away from home! It is an exceptionally comfortable hostel, which is very easy to find from the train station in Lisbon. It’s not in Cascais, it is about 20 minutes away, but the walk is beautiful along the coast.
It is located in a beautiful house that looks like it has been recently completely renovated, with original Portuguese tiles. And there is free parking outside the villa. In general, we recommend renting a car when exploring Portugal. It makes life so much easier and your experience so much richer. We usually use Discover Car for renting a car.
If you need advice on what to do in the local area, be sure to ask staff or volunteers. They are really kind and helpful and will have recommendations for you. The owner is super nice and makes sure that everyone feels comfortable.
Here you have a large number of programs and activities to choose from, so you will never be bored. You can surf, meditate or do yoga – in the morning on the pier which is amazing (what a setting!)
The Salty Pelican Beach Retreat is a hostel with a great atmosphere and wonderful people. We recommend it if you are looking for a cozy feeling and stay that will fully recharge your batteries.

2. Wax Hostel in Faro (South Portugal)
Wax Hostel is a really comfortable, charming, and calm hostel in Faro. It is close to the airport, directly on the beach, perfect for relaxing during your vacation.
If you ask us what is the best part of this hostel – we will tell you – a look that will never bore you. It is complemented by a terrace and a beach on both sides of the hostel. Having breakfast in front of the ocean is priceless. You feel like in a private resort! It’s more like a full house with a kitchen, a living room, a backyard that opens onto the river. The staff is really caring and kind.
You’ll enjoy sleeping in super comfy beds. Each has a charging port and a light that actually works, which is great. There are also blinds so the room is still dark in the morning. The hostel is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped, and has plenty of showers and bathrooms.
The common space is quite large and great. There is a lovely chill-out room with a large comfortable sofa. The outdoor area is fabulous and if you are a fan of sunrise, this has the absolute best view ever, it is stunning.
A small general store is a 5-minute walk away and there are many cafés, restaurants, and bars nearby. This hostel is a great choice for an active vacation. It will also please those who like to relax while enjoying the surroundings.
Here you can find all backpacker hostels in Faro.

3. Aktion Ericeira Surf Hostel
Aktion Ericeira Surf Hostel can be found right at the top of Rua das Lombas in Ericeira with an amazing view over the ocean and village. This is a great hostel with lots of nice things to do and it is very comfortable. It has a stunning location near the beach!
The common areas have lots of space. We must especially mention the rooftop terrace where you can enjoy sunsets. They have plenty of activities such as a pool table and table tennis. One of the hostel’s best features is a ramp/skate wave – perfect for practicing your surfing on dry land. It also has a nice pool and enough space for everyone to chill in hammocks, chairs, and benches on the grass.
The friendly, community-oriented staff is what makes this hostel so good. You will love the vibe: super chill during the day and fun in the evening. Everyone is so open and friendly so it is very easy to meet people if you are a solo traveler.
The good news for those who love to travel with their pets is that this is also a pet-friendly hostel. It also has comfortable beds with curtains for privacy in dorms and a great free breakfast (yummy!).
The only issue with this place is the distance from the city center. We would not call it an issue because it is only a 15-minute walk from there plus you have the option of a bus ride.

Beach Hostels in the United Kingdom
Yes, even the UK has hostels near the beach that are worth to mention and to consider.
1. Cohort Hostel, St Ives
Cohort Hostel in St Ives may not be the only beach hostel in the UK, but it is certainly the one we can recommend from the heart. Its location is in the center of St Ives and it is a beautiful old building which has been stylishly renovated into a hostel.
Where is St Ives, you might ask? St Ives is located in the South-West of the United Kingdom.
This hostel will especially appeal to environmentally conscious visitors. They are very committed to plastic recycling and the overall sustainability of water and electricity. It is also very clean and beds are extremely comfortable with curtains that ensure your privacy.
Your stay at Cohort Hostel will be especially pleasant due to the very friendly and helpful staff. They will make the extra mile to help you feel comfortable. And also, free tea and coffee in the morning are definitely a plus.
St Ives is a beauty spot and the hostel is in the heart of it. This is a good location for a short walk into the center of town and many bars and restaurants are close by. It is very close to the train station too.
This is a great stay for hikers and solo travelers. It is great value for money and we would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Beach Hostels in Spain
Beach and Hostels….obviously we have to cover Spain!
- La Ventana Azul Surf Hostel (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria)
- Mana Mana Hostel (Costa Brava, Catalonia)
1. La Ventana Azul Surf Hostel
Located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, La Ventana Azul Surf Hostel is a super social hostel with great facilities. This place has everything – even a cute hostel cat. It is right at the beach and you hear the waves at night. If your goal is to surf, you couldn’t ask for a better location.
Also, this hostel is great to work remotely. It’s well organized and clean. WiFi is good and stable, small co-working space on the 1st floor (the silent one) and option to work on the rooftop as well. The beds are comfortable and you can get your privacy thanks to the curtains.
We liked the vibe of the place and all the people were extremely cool: both staff and guests. We would recommend the place if you’re a solo traveler. Adaptation will go faster and way smoother. The hostel has a WhatsApp group, so it’s easy to find a company for different activities.
One more important point: rules for noise in common areas. Staff checks it daily, so no way that you’ll hear partying people all night long.
The highlight is the roof terrace where you can cook, hang out and check the waves at Las Canteras beach. And there’s a very good family and welcoming vibe all around the hostel.
Big plus: They work with a lot of different organizations to offer a large number of activities. Sometimes they organize visits to an amazing eco-farm. There you can try and practice sustainable gardening. It’s a unique local experience!

2. Mana Mana Hostel in Tossa de Mar, Costa Brava, Catalonia
Mana Mana is a friendly hostel located in the old town of one of the most beautiful places in Catalonia: Tossa de Mar.
The Mana Mana Hostel is located close to the church square, less than one-minute walking distance from the beach, main boulevard and the castle, in the narrow and quiet street Sant Telm. Its perfect location enables you to make the most of Tossa de Mar!
It has a great rooftop terrace with sun and shade. It has a great sense of community and you quickly get the feeling that you are at home.
Tossa de Mar itself is quite small. So within Tossa you won’t need a car. However, we recommend renting a car to get around Costa Brava. For instance, we love the tiny medieval village of Pals. The beach of Pals, Playa Illa Roja is another gem. You can jump from the cliffs – my personal highlight here.

Coolest Beach Hostels in Greece
5 Star Hostels meet glorious Greece – you’re in for a treat in this part of Europe!
- STAY Rhodes – 5 Star Hostel
- Far Out Beach Club, Mykonos
- Paraga Beach Hostel, Mykonos
- Youth Hostel Plakias, Crete
Here is our full guide to the coolest hostels in Greece. We all put them on a map too.
1. STAY Rhodes
The STAY Hostel Rhodes is located on the popular Greek island of Rhodes. The location is very good, it is just walking distance to the old town and the beach, right in the center of the town (although the parking might be tricky if you have a car).
You can meet great people here and you will never be alone for a second! The whole hostel is like a big community. You could always find a group of people at the terrace enjoying a drink from the bar before heading out somewhere else. It is highly recommended for solo travelers.
The rooms are clean and well planned. Also, you often get mini surprises each day. There is a good vibe in the hostel, a big kitchen to cook your meal and also a cinema library room in the basement.
P.S. Don’t waste your money trying to find nice food around the hostel – because the food in the hostel is delicious and at the very best price! The bar is also the place to mingle!

2. Far Out Beach Club
The Far Out Beach Club is a backpacker’s paradise, located right on Mylopotas beach in the south of the island of Mykonos. This is a great concept because you have an all-inclusive mini village with so many accommodation choices to cover every taste. You can choose between en-suite rooms/suites and windmill-shaped bungalows.
Read: 3 best hostels in Mykonos – compared
The tent is quite spacious offering two power sockets, light, and an electric fan. The resort offers a good amount of facilities, showers, toilets, a launderette, and a pool right next to a bar. It is right at the beach as well.
This is the best choice for a group of friends, especially if you are under 25 and you want to party – you will love this place!
Compare prices and read reviews at: Booking.com | Hostelworld
3. Paraga Beach Hostel
Yet again, Mykonos Island in Greece!
Paraga Beach Hostel & Camping is located in one of the best areas of Mykonos. It has direct access to the beach as well as an amazing vibe, with lots of people from everywhere in the world.
This is the best place if you want to party and meet people. It has a great view, a cool bar, and a nice pool and it is nearby the sea and restaurants. There are free transfers from/to the airport or port.
They offer a different kinds of accommodation and solutions for your stay. The private “rooms” are tents with a little fan, so it gets a bit difficult to sleep there in summer. And you can also camp with your tent, or caravan (no electricity is provided for the caravans or tents, but there are common places to charge your phones, etc.).
But all in all, this is a very pleasant experience and one of the most affordable places to stay in Mykonos.

4. Youth Hostel Plakias
Youth Hostel Plakias is a relaxing, serene, and fun place where you can meet friendly people from around the world. It is located in the village Plakias on the south coast of the Greek island of Crete, which is completely different from the bustling resorts on the north coast. Beaches are very close, as well as a market for local organic produce and lots of restaurants. There is parking provided too.
If you want to relax and also go for nice activities like hiking, swimming or just enjoying your time – this is a great place. You can go see the gorge and waterfall and Preveli beach in the day, and then kick back with some cold drink on a hammock in the evening.
Breakfast is served in a garden with olive trees, hammocks, and a patio. There’s also a bar. Other amenities include luggage storage, guest laundry facilities, and an open-air communal kitchen with a terrace, plus the use of guitars, beach mats, and snorkels.
The hostel is a perfect combination of a laid-back atmosphere, a peaceful garden, and interesting people of all ages. But we would not describe it as a “youth hostel”. Most of the people that stayed here come back every year for 20 years already. And that’s ok, just maybe not what you’d expect based on the hostel’s name 🙂 But that speaks volumes about the quality of the hostel itself. So if you are a young solo traveler and think of staying here, keep in mind that it might be a bit more challenging to find people your age.

Beach Hostels in France
1. JO&JOE Hossegor
JO&JOE Hossegor is well located in a huge Landes house and has many parking spaces. Hossegor is a small town in southwestern France, 20 km north of Biarritz, and it can be explored on foot without any problem! It is a well-known seaside resort that is considered to have some of the best surfing in the world. The hostel is a 5min walk from the beach or 10min from the city center where all the shops are. They have free parking available, and the general atmosphere is really friendly.
There is a big space with lots of chill areas outside. The Jo&Joe is a real gathering point both for passing travelers/surfers and for locals who meet to celebrate birthdays, come to parties, take part in various events such as flea markets or screenings. The mood is warm, open, and welcoming and this is a cool place to stay, even with small kids.

Best Beach Hostels in Asia
The trend of cool hostels in Europe made it all the way, especially South East Asia. You can find incredibly cool hostels nowadays across Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. And since those countries come as well with gorgeous beaches, it is natural that there are more epic beach hostels to expect.
Many of the beach hostels offer diving and surfing courses, too. So keep this in mind when planning your next trip, as you might want to consider a surfing retreat or finally learn how to dive.
Beach Hostels in Sri Lanka
- Satori Beach Hostel, Sri Lanka
- Little Lagoon, Sri Lanka
1. Satori Beach Hostel
Did you see our main photo of this post? Yes, this beautiful photo of a hostel right at the beach? THIS is Satori Beach Hostel.
Satori Beach Hostel is a gorgeous place to spend a few days relaxing and enjoying some of the most amazing sunsets. It is in a beautiful location, a little outside of the Mirissa, a small town on the south coast of Sri Lanka, but right on its private beach. Very Instagram, yogi vibe – great if that’s what you’re into. You can hang out here all day and it is good for swimming.
Also, it’s within walking distance from the bars and restaurants at Mirissa beach.
The hostel is incredibly well kept, with the rooms and bed being of the highest standard and quality. They have curtains and lights for each bed. Rooms are spacious and have their balcony.
The yoga place on the rooftop is perfect and lovely! And the cheap, regular bus to Weligama to surf is only 3 minutes away.
Food is delicious here – they have yummy vegan meals for cheap!
Be sure to join a family dinner for at least one night, the food is great and you’ll have the chance to meet everyone. This is a lovely way to meet others at the hostel, especially as a solo traveler! It isn’t cliquey or awkward, just really chill and nice atmosphere!

2. Little Lagoon
Little Lagoon is a fabulous little hostel in Arugam Bay, one of Sri Lanka’s best surfing spots. The owners, Lien and her family are the most caring and nice people and they managed to create a unique atmosphere at their place.
Staying there is a perfect way to meet new friends and get inspired, find a company for a surf, trips or just a lunch. At the same time, it’s not another loud, party hostel. Even when the hostel is fully booked, it is not too crowded. Here everyone respects the needs and space of each other, which helps to feel like home.
Breakfasts are fantastic, with a mix of local and western cuisine. And the prices are very reasonable. You can refill your water bottle for free, and they are eco-friendly and recycle! Hurray, we love that!
The mixed dorms provide everything you need on a trip with friends or solo travels. They have clean beds, lockable spaces, and air conditioning. AC is a lifesaver here, really! The sheets and towels smell so good! Everything is thought-out from the reading light and outlets by the bed to the wooden table/wardrobe to put bags and hang up wet swimsuits.
The way things are set up in the hostel allows you to mingle with your fellow hostel mates, while also boasting a variety of hammocks and sun chairs to escape the chatter. And our favorite part is the bikes they provide, which are free to use.

Beach Hostels in Thailand
For me, Thailand is culture, food, smiles, and beaches. For many others, they would add the world famous Full Moon Parties to this list. And those parties take place at beaches. Here are our favorite beach hostels in Thailand to enjoy.
1. Bodega Hostel Koh Phangan, Koh Phangan
Bodega Hostel in Koh Phangan is the best hostel for those who love parties. This island in southeast Thailand is renowned for its monthly Full Moon Party. And you can’t beat having a beach on your doorstep.
The location is perfect and the sunsets are amazing. The staff is all super friendly and helpful recommending beaches, waterfalls, shops, restaurants, etc to explore. And they make great food and drinks, too!
They have 24 hr bar, a pool and ping pong table, and a swimming pool. The accommodation (both dorms and private huts) is clean and comfy. To top it off it’s right on the beach and there’s a bunch of hammocks right next to the sea to chill on in the shade.
Days are still quiet and relaxing. Bike rental from the hostel is very convenient. Also if you attend a full or half-moon party this is the place to stay. Fun events are held almost every night (like the pub quiz) and it creates an opportunity to get to know all of the backpackers staying here.
Goodtime Beach Backpackers is a great hostel that draws a fun crowd of people in the early to mid-’20s. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for great accommodation on Koh Phangan.

Beach Hostels in the Philippines
- Outpost Beach Hostel, El Nido
- Mad Monkey Nacpan Beach, El Nido
1. Outpost Beach Hostel, El Nido
Outpost Beach Hostel is a recommendation for staying in El Nido. A combination of great music, great food, and a location right on the beach makes Outpost one of the best hostels we have ever stayed at. Top it off with a different adventure available every day, sunset shots, and the best beer pong championships we’ve ever seen – you’ll wish you could be stranded there.
The hostel is very clean and spacious. Rooms are big with huge lockers and new air cons and multiple clean bathrooms for all hostel travelers. The communal area downstairs is great with a bar and full kitchen. It leads right out onto the beach and it is perfect for watching an amazing sunset with a drink.
All the staff are so much fun and very social. They always have something fun arranged to keep people occupied. Make sure you do a boat tour cos it’s a huge laugh and it’s the easiest way to make friends.
This is a party hostel and it may not be the best choice if you are if you’re shy or do not want to party. But also, if you want a quiet night, head back to the dorms without hearing too much from the party.
It’s a little bit far away from the city center, but it’s easy enough to get a tricycle and be in town in 10 mins.
Worth visiting while staying in El Nido! A good place to meet new friends from different parts of the world.

2. Mad Monkey Nacpan Beach, El Nido
If you’re looking for a place to stay when stopping by El Nido, Mad Monkey Nacpan Beach is your spot. Nacpan Beach is 20 minutes away from central El Nido, but don’t let that discourage you. It’s away from all the hustle and bustle and it has the most pristine beach on the mainland of El Nido.
This is a great party hostel and really nice and social place! Especially for solo travelers. If you’re looking for something quiet this is not for you.
The food is really good too, and the bar and restaurant are 24 hours with free shots during the night! Beds are comfy and have lots of locker space too.
You shouldn’t miss an island hopping tour with the hostel and also a beach cleanup which they organize often because it is really needed! And be sure to bring a backpack rather than a suitcase – turns out sand is quite hard to wheel over.
Mad Monkey Backpackers is a popular hostel chain, with hostels located in South East Asia. Here you can find an entire overview of Mad Monkey Hostels.

Beach Hostels in Vietnam
1. The Memory Da Nang
As the name suggests – The Memory – Danang – you will forever remember staying in this hostel. It is such a beautiful place in Da Nang, the largest city in central Vietnam (and 3rd largest in the country), located quite close to the beach and still very close to the city center.
The architecture is modern and creative. The design and decorations are amazing – minimal, unique, and calm. The rooms are not big, but very cleverly arranged so it feels very cozy. The bed is very comfortable and you have a beautiful bathroom with a strong shower. The best thing about this place is the views. From every corner, there is another beautiful angle to look at.
The bar and reception bring out an elegant, yet sophisticated atmosphere. There are free fruit and snacks at the bar, library with quality books also. The people working here are SO nice, helpful, friendly and truly have a service mind!
Good to know: Take a bike tour along the coast line to the famous village of Hanoi. This route will take you along many beautiful beaches, too. Here is our guide on the best things to do in Da Nang.

1. Kos One Hostel – 5 Star Hostel
Kos One Hostel is one of the coolest places in Canggu, a coastal village and 10 km beach on the south coast of Bali! The aesthetics of the hostel is amazing! Such a pretty place to wake up to in the mornings.
The rooms are very nice with a balcony towards the pool area! The beds are super comfy and huge. It is super-clean, and the big, deep pool is amazing! You can jump from the second floor or slide! Yes, slide!
The “free breakfast/breakfast included” options are insane. You could choose from acai bowls, omelets, steaks, smoothies… Whatever you want – they have it. It also came with fresh juice and coffee or tea, and it is very delicious.
They also have FREE yoga every morning from 9:30-10:30 and it is so perfect. The pool parties are so much fun and really easy to join in!

Best Beach Hostels in South America
Beach Hostels in Ecuador
- Hostal Galapagos by Bar de Beto
- Free Spirit Hostel
1. Hostal Galapagos by Bar de Beto
Hostal Galapagos by Bar de Beto is fantastic place located in the center of Puerto Villamil, a small port village on the southeastern edge of Isla Isabela in the Galapagos Islands. If you are looking for a hostel that is a little bit outside the city with the beach just 50 metres away, this is a perfect choice.
The hostel is family-owned / operated and they are very welcoming and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our time at this hostel!
The hostel bar is in in front of the beach and far enough away from the hostel that you can’t hear the party. The bar is very nice – has wifi, hammocks, tables, happy hour specials, and a beautiful view, of course 🙂
The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds. You have a hot shower, AC, good wifi, and a beautiful beach view. There is a kitchen where filtered water is available. It is located near the beginning of the bike trail which takes you to the Wall of Tears and is a short walk from the ATM, center, and restaurants.
The biggest issue with this hostel is we couldn’t stay longer. Would recommend it to anyone looking for not only good vibes but a great accommodation and overall experience.

2. Free Spirit Hostel
Free Spirit Hostel is one of the best places to stay in Ecuador! It is located on a remote beach in the south of Ecuador in Engabao.
If you want a hostel with a nice spot and a great teacher for surf, this is the place! You can easily learn to surf in 1 week as the waves are good for beginners to advance depending on the time of day.
You can have the best yoga classes, too. Or you can swim in the ocean and at the hostel pool, meet and connect with nice people, party at the bar, and chill in a hammock. There is an amazing bonfire place with a great view next to the bar. Speaking of the bar, lots of fun games and good drinks.
You can’t be unhappy by staying in this hostel! A free spirit is a life. Have fun and enjoy the sunset!

Beach Hostels in Colombia
- Costeño Beach
- Viajero Hostel Tayrona & Ecohabs – 5 star hostel
1. Costeño Beach
Costeño Beach hostel is located on a beautiful beach on the Caribbean coast of Colombia – between the ocean and the jungle. This is the place to go if you wanna have fun! The hostel is like a little community with restaurants, café, little shopping, and surfing. And the pool is amazing!
This is one of the most famous backpacker hostels in all Colombia! You are sitting in the common area with a view to the sea. You take a step out of this place and you touch the beach. This is literally a BEACH Hostel!
They have cabins with all necessary – electricity, light, and every dorm has its locker. We were very impressed with all the security and cameras around the hostel, so this brings you a lot of security during your stay. The WiFi connection is really good and fast, too.
Digital Nomads: Personally, we have worked with our laptops in the common area of the Costeño Hostel for two days as well.
This is a very international place, so if you want to live the Colombian experience, this is note the spot. The music here is very international, and there are a lot of foreign people. Also, this hostel is known for its parties, especially during weekends, so be aware that this is not a relaxing spot to have a tranquil vacation.
In the restaurant, they have wide menu options for all, vegetarians, vegans, etc. The cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls are super tasty!
Beach is next to the hostel, so you can chill all the time between the pool, beach, and sea all day. The sea has strong currents, mostly for surf… It is a bit dangerous to get in by itself so be careful.
So if you looking for a party and getting to know people – Costeño Beach is the best choice!

2. Viajero Hostel Tayrona & Ecohabs
Viajero Hostel Tayrona & Ecohabs is one of the best hostels we have ever stayed at! We had high expectations from the ratings and we were still super pleasantly surprised.
The hostel is located right by the beach in Buritaca, a small town 48 kilometres from Santa Marta, and it is a big complex with a great balance of chilling and partying. Everything looks beautiful and modern around you, staying a little wild and natural at the same time. Rooms are spacious and beds are clean. They would change the sheets every day and you can also get a fresh towel every day.
Good to know: Costeño Beach is also nearby and the cheaper option. The Viajero is more pricey but comes with this crazy-awesome resort kind of feeling.
There are also plenty of activities to keep you busy, from playing volleyball or ping pong to yoga, surfing, or even learning Muay Thai. If you’re looking for a more quiet time, you can read a book while swinging on a hammock or get a massage and chill by the pool. Make sure to check out the surfing school, they have a great instructor too 🙂 Also, do yourself a favor and do the tubing tour, it was one of the best days of our life, seriously.
The beach is super nice and you can take long walks! The Breakfast (buffet) is delicious and has homemade cakes/bread/arepas etc. In general, the food is really good and the prices are fine.
It is the perfect getaway, so just go, it’s amazing.

Best Beach Hostels in Central America
Beach Hostels in Panama
- Palmar Beach Lodge
- Selina Playa Venao
1. Palmar Beach Lodge
Palmar Beach Lodge is a little piece of paradise with a great atmosphere. It is set in a gorgeous location at Red Frog beach in the Bocas del Toro archipelago, in the middle of the jungle. You are in the middle of a rainforest, yet steps away from a beautiful beach. Not only you are in a rainforest, but there is wildlife all around you. You can spot animals as well (caimans, sloths, lots of birds, red frogs) which adds a total plus to the above.
The tents have comfortable beds and a WiFi reception in the room is a bonus. The restaurant with a sea view is beautiful. The food and drinks are excellent and they have the best smoothies.
We also enjoyed on-site yoga classes and the availability of other activities. There are excursions to other islands that can be booked at the counter and you could also borrow snorkeling gear from the accommodation. The waves can be a bit tough sometimes (for someone who cannot swim very well), but you always have the chance to go to another beach nearby to enjoy clear tidy waters.
We especially like the variety of local and global travelers that visited and frequented there.
Last, but not least – they show a great interest in an Ecological friendly environment. All the water comes from rainwater (you can always drink purified rainwater at your disposal), biodegradable soaps and shower gels, sorting waste, and so on.

2. Selina Playa Venao
Selina Playa Venao is such a cool spot and a really fantastic beach. It is located in Las Escobas del Venado, a city in Los Santos province in Panama. The amenities are great and they did a great job designing a cozy beach vacation spot. It’s picturesque and exactly what you would hope for from an aesthetic point of view.
There are comfy beds, clean rooms, and lots of facilities that will allow you to spend your days by the beach. The wifi was good but who cares when you’re in such a beautiful place?
The food is perfect.. the veggie burger, the hummus, the ceviche, the fish, and all the breakfast options are very delicious.
It is a very relaxing environment where you can have a great time with friends. The location is also family-friendly and kids are welcome too. You can choose a place to chill – from hammocks to beam bags, swings and long chairs. Every day you can practice yoga class, and they do many creative workshops (for free). And this is a surfer’s paradise.
So, Selina Playa Venao is definitely a place you want to see!

Beach Hostels in Belize
1. Sandbar Beachfront Hostel & Restaurant
Sandbar Beachfront Hostel & Restaurant is just a great, well-run hostel located in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. The location is magical being right on the beach, close to the water taxi. They have their dock. The hostel is huge and there are 4 different chill-out areas.
The rooms are spacious and clean with ac. Each bunk has a curtain around it for privacy and a locker under the bed.
It is a walking distance of great restaurants and all the major city attractions (snorkel, beaches, restaurants) and amenities (stores, food, golf cart rentals). And it has its own fun restaurant and bar – a very fun place with a happy atmosphere. They make fabulous drinks too. Prices are very reasonable, it’s open until midnight, and there’s even happy hour.
The staff is exceptional. They go above and beyond to accommodate you. The pool area is gorgeous and you also have a free kayak rental and discounts in specific places.
Good To Know: We also have a detailed guide on the best hostels in Caye Caulker, Belize.

Beach Hostels in Costa Rica
Cor blimey, two 5 star hostels in Costa Rica? You bet ya! Good luck choosing one, dear traveller.
- The Pipe House – 5 star hostel
- Casa Zen Guesthouse – 5 star hostel
1. The Pipe House
The Pipe House is something that you will remember! It is strategically located deep in the heart of the Baulas Marine Park in the southern end of Playa Grande. Playa Grande, also known as Salinas, is a beach community on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, just north of Tamarindo.
This is quite a unique hostel to stay in. It’s built from the same concrete pipes that were used in the construction of the Panama Canal. The common area is super stylish as well. Concrete benches look a bit like a skate park.
There is tons of nature right within the hostel itself, as it’s located very close to the national park! Howler monkeys like to swing by every morning, and we saw parrots flying through the courtyard. At night, land crabs are everywhere (they especially like to scare people in the bathrooms).
The location is just perfect. It’s only 50 meters from the beach and it is a great escape from Tamarindo. The beach is beautiful and the sun amazingly sets over the water.
The layout of the property is super unique and very cute! All of the rooms are centered around the kitchen/communal area. The open environment of the whole common space creates a sense of community. It’s so easy to make friends with other guests while you’re there (if you want to).
We highly recommend The Pipe House. If you are looking for hot showers or big rooms or close to busy nightlife you’d want something else. But – if looking for a simple place to rejuvenate by the beach for a couple of days – it’s great.

2. Casa Zen Guesthouse
Are you planning on going into a zen mode? Then Casa Zen Guesthouse might be the place for you. This place is located in the middle of Santa Teresa on Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica and it offers yoga about 2-3 times per day. Mats, blocks, pillows are provided and the atmosphere of the yoga studio is very zen – a nice balcony area, some incense, essential oils, etc.
What is also great is the common area, plenty of private bathrooms and two good kitchens with a fridge. This is a good place to meet other travelers, especially as a solo female traveler. Location right on the beach (like a 2-minute walk). It is a walking distance to both ends of town. Rooms are kept clean, sheets change every other day, laundry services and bike rentals are offered.
There are no TVs, projectors, or a lot of electronics. The staff really knows how to just “Keep calm and stay Zen”! Don’t come here if you’re looking for a party hostel. If you want to wake up early in the morning, have the opportunity for morning yoga, and meet people with a healthy lifestyle in focus, then you will be more than happy here!

Best Beach Hostels in North America
Beach Hostels in Puerto Rico
1. Nomada Urban Beach Hostel
Nomada Urban Beach Hostel in San Juan is a great place with very comfortable accommodations. It’s in the perfect location – perfect mix of Puerto Rican culture and not too much tourism – 5 min walk to the beach and park to run in/play soccer. It is super close to old San Juan and the downtown area if you are looking for all the tourism! And it has parking spots right next to it. There is also a bus station right in front of the property. The bus ride from the airport to the hostel takes 15 minutes.
Everything is self serve – you have codes for the main door, your room, and also to access each floor. They text you with this information so you don’t really need anybody to check in or out. The hostel itself seems very safe and they take extra measures to make sure you feel safe and comfortable.
The beds with curtains are a wonderful addition and the place is super clean and has a lot of great hangout areas to chill. They provide a lot of extras like soaps and towels. The kitchen area was nice and well organized. The coffee they serve is some of the best we’ve had.
Also, the rooftop is a great place to watch the sun, the sea, and drink or to work. Probably would be the reason for us to come back 🙂

Beach Hostels in Mexico
- Nomads Hotel & Beachclub
- Mayan Monkey Hotel & Hostel, Cancun
- Selina Tulum
1. Nomads Hotel & Beachclub
Nomads Hotel & Beachclub is an amazing place! The Nomads crew created a unique oasis on the south beach of Isla Mujeres, Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea. Not only everything was well organized, clean, and well done, but the vibes that the place has are indeed unique.
The location is very good and there is an awesome area to chill during the day with a nice private beach for guests. The bar and restaurant have good food. You have a decent breakfast at a very reasonable price and some very nice food options like poke and pizzas in case you are hungry in the evening. It is also great to have a kitchen where you can cook and refill your water bottles.
The design of this whole place is stunning – incredible view, great decoration, and aesthetics! The shared rooms are really big you don’t even feel how many people are there. There’s a great WiFi connection anywhere in this facility.
The staff is very friendly and they organize some activities during the day – free yoga classes, cocktails classes, ceviche, tours for snorkeling, and scuba diving where you will be picked up at Nomads Dock and so on…
It is very easy to meet people if traveling solo. And just a reminder – there will be parties with loud music. So if you are not in a party mood, either try to book something not facing the sea (maybe a room with a garden view?) or don’t expect to sleep early. To be fair, the hostel warns you about it, and so does the reception, so this should not come as a surprise 🙂

2. Mayan Monkey Hotel & Hostel
Mayan Monkey Hotel & Hostel is the best place if you are looking for a party in Cancun, a Mexican city located on the northeastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, facing the Caribbean Sea. Location is great – in front, you have a public beach just crossing the street, and party clubs are close, a 5 min walk.
Bedrooms are huge and you have plenty of room. There are comfortable beds with curtains, clean sheets, shelves inside, and a possibility to charge the battery by the bed. Ask for a room on the waterside – a much nicer view than the highway side 🙂 You can use the washing machine and dryer (for an extra charge) too.
The free breakfast consists of mainly cold items: yogurt, fruit, granola, hot coffee, etc. There is a hot breakfast menu to select from for a fee.
This is by far the best hostel for meeting new friends. The common party/rest area is decorated great. The bar and pool area is a great spot to hang and the hostel puts on events every night. It is a fun lively atmosphere all the time!
And a small note – the music is pretty loud especially if you have a room near the bar. We recommend a good pair of earplugs as this is a lifesaver for getting a good night’s sleep in any circumstances.

3. Selina Tulum
You are traveling to Tulum and wondering if the famous Selina Tulum is the place to be? Definitely yes!
Thanks to its gorgeous beaches, perfect spot, stunning coral reefs just off the coast as well as fascinating culture, Tulum has become a loved tourist destination. And we have got an excellent example that finding affordable yet comfortable accommodation here is possible.
Nestled between the port ruins and beautiful Sian Ka’an’s nature reserve, the beachfront location will be an excellent choice for those looking for art, music, wellness, and, of course, culture. Be prepared for a gorgeous beach, some epic food, and wild parties.
You may choose between four types of accommodation – private or sharing rooms, depending on whether you want a full hostel atmosphere or a bit of privacy. If you are craving to have an experience like no other, make sure to try out their canopy-topped glamping tent or bamboo teepee under the stars. Just imagine – you are in Tulum, right on the beach. The weather is warm, and after a long day, you snuggle up under the sky.
Guests have the opportunity to participate in all kinds of Selina Tulum events. Foodies are guaranteed to enjoy their relaxing cacao ceremonies and yummy restaurants that serve grilled fish, spicy tamales, and crunchy marquesitas. So dance your worries away, listening to the local DJ, have a chill Mayan massage, or simply lay by the stunning pool area. Whatever you choose – you will be pleased!

Beach Hostels in USA
- Samesun Venice Beach, California
- Posh South Beach, Miami
- Samesun Ocean Beach, San Diego
1. Samesun Venice Beach
Samesun Venice Beach is a great place for young people. The location right on the boardwalk in a neighborhood of the city of Los Angeles is perfect as a base for exploring Venice and Santa Monica. You have a lot of great places to eat nearby, and a fancy coffee shop right across the street.
If you want to cook your own meals, the hostel kitchen is great. It is spacious and fully equipped and has everything you need for cooking, plus a big fridge for everyone to use. The rooms are fine, the beds are comfortable and the key card made it easy to come and go at all hours. A free towel is also very nice. The place is clean and the WiFi works great.
This hostel attracts mostly real backpackers, so you can meet very friendly, social, and open people here. Truly recommend this place to those looking for having a proper Venice experience.

2. Posh South Beach
Posh South Beach in Miami is located on a prime location on South Beach’s famous Collins Avenue, super close to the beach and so many good foods and nightlife options just step out the door.
The rooftop pool is very nice and looks as good as seen in the pictures. And there is a nice common area for socializing. The wifi works well too.
The washer and dryer are very reasonable in cost. The dorms are big and busy, but very clean. The beds are good to sleep in and the kitchen/hall is big enough.
We liked the breakfast although it was very simple, toast, cereal, and coffee. And there is a lot of variety of cuisine at a walking distance.

3. Samesun Ocean Beach
Samesun Ocean Beach is a great place to meet cool people and have fun in San Diego. It is located in a fantastic location, very accessible to everything. The beach is just 5 min walk away and it is surrounded by a lot of restaurants and bars.
There is a great outdoor area and a very well-equipped kitchen with 3 massive refrigerators where you can bring your food & drink. Breakfast is a nice little snack: decent coffee, fruit, and a little nutrition bar.
You need a security code to get into the property. They change the door code daily and take luggage storage seriously. We LOVE the front porch with lots of plants & bushes to separate from the sidewalk.
Bodyboards and surfing boards are available to rent at a reasonable rate and you can choose your daily activities, like yoga, etc.
This hippie place is very special. There are lots of places to chill & work (lots of remote workers!) And, best of all, a ton of cool people everywhere you go.

Best Beach Hostels in Africa
Beach Hostels in Morocco
1. Amayour Surf Hostel – Surf Hostel
Amayour Surf Hostel is 5 star hostel 20 seconds from the famous beaches of Taghazout. This hostel is small and family-run, which is something that only works in its favor. You’ll feel the welcoming vibes. They work with lots of local organizations to promote the sort of community they want to live in. That means beach cleanups with Taghazout’s Taddart Associations and the village’s “clean the streets” initiative. Even though you’re staying at a hostel, you’ll get a feel for how locals live at Amayour Surf because they incorporate and celebrate so many elements of Moroccan culture.
It is a perfect hostel if you’re looking for a chill surf hostel and offers everything needed for a stay in Taghazout. The rooftop terrace offers a great view of both beaches and it is a very nice feature of this place.
The atmosphere of the place is brilliant. Daily surf trips to the spots are well organized, as well as the day trip to Paradise Valley. They have yoga and surf lessons daily.
The food is also very good with different options every night! And the wifi is efficient if you want to work.
The staff are second to none, so warm and welcoming they feel like friends. So, it is a relaxed, clean and friendly hostel and we could not recommend this place more!

Beach Hostels in Zanzibar
1. New Teddy’s on the Beach
New Teddy’s on the Beach is a lovely hideaway located in Jambiani, an old fishing village on the southeast coast of Zanzibar, with breathtaking views and excellent facilities. It is also very popular among families.
The hostel owns a sufficient amount of hammocks, beach beds, etc. And the restaurant is wide enough the allow you to meet other travelers or find some space for smaller groups. The private access to the beach is definitely another plus.
They have a swimming pool and sand is everywhere, even inside the dorms. The rooms are cleaned every day, the food is delicious and meals were prepared generally very quickly. If you want to do any special tour or to go somewhere by taxi, all you need to do is talk to the staff and they would get everything organized, very fast and at a fair price!
We truly recommend this place, it’s like the island of peace.

Beach Hostels in Kenya
1. Diani Backpackers
Diani Backpackers is a really good budget-friendly option in Diani Beach, a major beach on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya. It is a minute or two from the beach with a great outdoor area with good spots to meet others, or to find a place for just yourself too.
The pool is great, clean, and warm. It is nice to sit around the pool and have a few drinks. They have a great range of spirits and drinks. There are parties on Fridays and Saturdays and it is the perfect place for groups of friends.
All food is homemade by local in-house chefs. It is very good and reasonably priced – makes up for the lack of kitchen facilities.

CLOSED: 9 Station Hostel
Update: This hostel has permanently closed. We’ve kept this content here for your information.
9 Station Hostel is a great party hostel in Phu Quoc, the largest island in Vietnam! It is close to the main street with many restaurants and shops; hidden in a small alley, so it is very quiet (no noises from the street).
You can start your day here with a good breakfast for a cheap price and nice free coffee and tea. You can meet new friends in the nice lobby with a pool table and football game, or by the swimming pool. They have big screens great for hanging out with other travelers too.
The environment and the atmosphere are awesome, full of nice people. The hostel is very clean with daily housekeeping, shampoo, shower gel, and soap for free; free laundry (yeeey!); good WiFi (at least in common area); big locker for luggage, extra small locker at the bed for personal belongings; comfy beds and thick curtains…
It is a party hostel, so if you are on your own is a good choice. Definitely a great place for backpackers.
