Quick Introduction to Ho Chi Minh City
The average price for a bed: Hostels in Ho Chi Minh City cost as little as 3⏠– 12⏠per night for a bed in a dorm. A private room starts from 17⏠up to 42⏠per night. This is a rough average, just to give you an idea.
Prices always depend on the season and holidays. Please always check the exact rates on Hostelworld.com or Booking.com.
Check-In and Check-Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3 pm), while the Check Out time is before 11:00 (11 am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.
Important: We highly recommend staying away from the cheapest hostels in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam. These usually come with a higher price tag that you didn’t sign up for, aka cockroaches. Pay a tiny bit more (meaning 4$ instead of 3$), and your experience will be entirely different.

Saigon vs. Ho Chi Minh City: The city has two names! After the American War ended, the city was named Saigon to Ho Chi Minh City, or HCMC for short. It is in the same city!
Location: Do not overthink the location of your hostel too much! HCMC is massive; you will need a scooter or taxi anyways unless you only want to sleep one night here and head to the airport; then stay close to the airport!
Other than that, check our map. We put all sights and hostels here for better planning and orientation.

These are our favorite hostels in Ho Chi Minh City. We want to make your life even easier, so we put all accommodations on a map for you. We even added our own tips for favorite restaurants, things to see, and more.

We put all three accommodations on the map. You will find the map at the end of the article.
1. Meander Saigon
Meander Saigon is our top pick for HCMC hostels, especially for female solo travelers and digital nomads.
Here you’ll find:
- A bar (where you can also have breakfast to cure a hangover)
- Free and good WiFi
- A shared kitchen
- A 24-hour front desk (that you can reach via slide)
- Co-working space (with flexible hot desk)
Check prices at:
Hostelworld | Booking.com | Hostelz.com
We really like their minimalistic modern interiors that provide all the basic essentials that you could expect from a hotel: free toiletries, fresh towels (free and daily), and an amazing and accommodating staff.
If youâre looking for some liveliness, you can head to their little bar that gets converted to a cafĂ© during the day.
If youâre a light sleeper, bring earplugs with you because the area tends to get noisy during the weekend as it is surrounded by bars and restaurants.
Meander Saigon is part of a chain of Meander hostels that first took root in Taipei, so the facilities have all been designed to accommodate the needs and expectations of travelers. You know youâll be in great hands if you opt to stay here.
Location: Saigon hostels in district 1, very close to Japan town. Restaurants, cafĂ©s, and bars surround the area. Many of Ho Chi Minhâs main sights and attractions are at a walkable distance from this hostel. Alternatively, youâll find a bus stop right in front of its entrance.

- Female solo travelers
- Digital nomads

2. The Like Hostel & Cafe
The Like Hostel & Cafe is our favorite Saigon hostel for solo travelers and backpackers.
This HCMC Hostel has the following facilities:
- The rooftop bar (with one free beer per day from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm)
- 24/7 reception
- Tour desk (with free walking tours twice a week)
- Lounge (with board games)
Check prices at:
Hostelworld | Booking.com | Hostelz.com
Although this hostel has a bar and an overall great, lively atmosphere, it is definitely not a party hostel.
Here, people like to lounge in cozy and comfortable places throughout the property, opting to participate in the hostel’s book exchanges or play board games in the lounge.
The bar is used as a place to hang out and socialize but closes at 10:00 pm.
The beds are also designed for ultimate comfort, with private curtains, lockers, and air conditioning.
Location: Saigon hostel in district 1, a 5-minute walk from Tao Dan park, Mariamman Hindu temple, and Benh Than market. Bui Vien street (backpacker street) is a 2-minute walk away as well. Restaurants, bars, and cafe surround the area. You can also reach most of Saigonâs famous sights from there.
A great choice for
- Solo travelers
- Backpackers

Hostelworld | Booking.com | Hostelz.com
3. The Hideout Hostel Saigon
The Hideout Hostel Saigon is our favorite pick for party hostels in Saigon.
Here, you’ll find:
- 1 FREE beer per day (between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm)
- A bar
- A lounge (with billiard)
- A tour/transport booking desk
Check prices at:
Hostelworld | Hostelz.com
This hostel prides itself in its highly social atmosphere and tries to promote it throughout the property – which is why they serve free beers every day (booze is notoriously known to increase extroversion, as you know).
Although this is a party hostel, it is still clean, which is why we recommend it. The dorms are cleaned on a daily basis, and they come with A/C and private power sockets per bed.
When it comes to noise, definitely don’t pick this one if you’re a light sleeper, as it is notoriously known to be loud – even in the middle of the night.
Location: Central hostel in Saigon in district 1. It’s right next to Bui Vien street, where you will find all the city’s most popular clubs and bars. It’s also easy to get around from here and explore what the rest of the city has to offer.
This is one of the best hostels in Ho Chi Minh City for
- Party lovers

What about the cheapest hostel in Ho Chi Minh City?
Of course, there are always cheap hostels.
We think itâs not worth it to go with the cheapest hostel out there.
Why?
The difference is usually 1-2⏠($1-2) per night, if not even less than in Vietnam. Seriously, the first time we traveled around the country for 3 months, we sometimes thought, “hey, let’s save some money”.
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. we went to the cheapest places; it was dirty and with cockroaches. Skip that!
We are not your mommy, but you will not enjoy it. Spend 50 cents more per night – your whole hostel experience will change. For 50 cents more, you suddenly have a sparking, clean place, super friendly staff, events, breakfast included, etc.
You may not believe us right now; once you are in Vietnam, you will realize how cheap it is here!
We spent in total half a year already in the country!
However, if you are traveling on a shoestring budget and you wanna save every penny, there are ways to find the cheapest places in Saigon.
- Open Hostelworld with a full list of budget places to stay in Ho Chi Minh City.
- Order the listing by price
Simple as that.

Make sure you use the other filters and rank per price.
Also, keep a close eye on the ratings, especially the “extreme ratings”. Meaning the best and worst. These ratings can give great insight into what to expect.
That being said, again, you will have the best experience with the hostels mentioned above.

Update: Closed Hostels
The Common Room Project (Closed in 2022)
The Common Room Project (TCRP)Â is AMAZING â AWESOME â THE BEST!
We love this place and highly recommend it as the best hostel in Saigon! Indeed, the best best area to stay in Ho Chi Minh.
It is the only 5 Star Hostel in Ho Chi Minh City.
Besides the amazing building itself and the interior design, it is the small details like comfy mattresses, large fluffy pillows, natural room lighting, and spacious and comfy rooms that TCRP wants for their guests and travelers to have the optimum relaxation during their stay.
The hostel gives guests a quiet place to stay and a peaceful neighborhood situated on Nguyen Trai Street, District 5. The location is top! You are away from the crazy (and not cool) backpacker party street and on a small side street.
Therefore, at night you sleep super quiet!!
This is important to know when choosing a Ho Chi Minh City hostel. We stayed in 3 more hostels in Saigon; it was always loud due to traffic or restaurants/ bars nearby.
Amenities you can use in TCRP:
- Free and super Fast WiFi
- Rooftop Bar
- BBQ Area
- Courtyard (you can park your motorbike here too as we did!)
Aside from a fully equipped kitchen where you are free to prepare your own meals, the hostel gives guests Cooking Classes. Here you can learn how to cook true Vietnamese dishes.
Not only do you learn how to cook their food, but you also take a piece of Vietnam home with you.
And if youâre in the mood to drink, TCRP features a rooftop bar you canât resist.
The bar may not be your typical wild party house, but it gives you the perfect ambiance to chill and have a sip of your favorite cold beer and has great conversations with your newly gained friends while you take a view of the busy city.
Activities?
We wouldnât say that The Common Room Project is your home away from home if it does not have common activities between travelers and families.
Guests can play games, and cards, play musical instruments, or simply watch together in the comfy and warm TV lounge. Nothing like the warm vibrancy of your home.
Our highlight was the family dinner night with the other travelers and staff. After the great food, we all head out to party together in a nightclub. FUN TIMES!
The Common Project is also a top choice for female solo travelers, adult travelers (35 upwards), and couples (luxury double rooms!).
You will not find a cheap backpacker here since it is a bit more pricey than the usual hostel. However, with the 5-Star Hostels, it absolutely pays off!
What about the Location?
Though isolated from the noisy, busy streets, TCRP is only a few minutes away from the heart of the city, so you donât have to worry. The great adventure in Ho Chi Minh City still awaits you. You can either rent a scooter to cruise around or take a Grab taxi.
The War Museum is around 20 minutes away. As for the Cu Chi Tunnels, which we highly recommend, you will need to book a tour anyways. The tunnels are outside the city.
This is one of the best hostels in Ho Chi Minh City for
- Female Solo-Travellers
- Solo Travelers
- Travelers +35 upwards
- Families
Saigon Backpackers Hostel (Closed in 2022)
Cheaper and more backpacker style comes in next Saigon Backpackers Hostel Vietnam. It is a certified cheap hostel Ho Chi Minh has to offer.
If you are looking for a clean, quiet, and budget-friendly hostel, Saigon Backpackers Hostel is confidently the one for you.
Another great deal about the hostel is that it is only a 30-45 minute drive to Saigon International Airport, where metered taxis will only cost you around $10-15 USD. Make sure you take a metered taxi or directly order a taxi with the Grab App!
For your convenience, cheaper and safer transfers can be arranged at the hostel.
Amenities at Saigon Backpackers Hostel:
- FREE WiFi
- Laundry Service
- Tour desk
Rooms are fitted with bunk beds, flat-screen TVs, and private bathrooms with a dryer.
Traveling solo or in a group?
Worry no more because they have spacious and modernly designed rooms for both solos and groups. From single beds to bunk beds, either way, both are fully air-conditioned rooms.
In the common lounge area, guests can kill time, watch TV, or play DVDs with other hostel guests. Also, a good way to converse and change ideas with travelers from different places.
Another part of the hostel is the kitchen, where you can make your preferred meals.
The hostel also offers complimentary guided city tours, or you can simply arrange your own at the hostel tour desk.
Location: A hostel in central Ho Chi Minh City. You are within a 10-minute walking distance of Ben Thanh Market and a 15-minute walk to the beautiful Opera House and Central Post Office.
A few walks and youâre already in the heart of the city, just waiting for you to explore.
Again, we recommend anyways to rent a scooter or getting around Saigon with Grab/ Taxi. It is a HUGE city!
This is one of the best hostels in Ho Chi Minh City for
- Small Group Travelers
City Poshtel (Closed in 2022)
One of the best hostels in Ho Chi Minh City, featuring a terrace where you can enjoy the sun’s warm rays, we got City Poshtel for you.
City Poshtel is a great choice for a relaxing vacation for families with children and small groups of travelers.
Rooms are vibrantly neat and clean, which warms your eye and gives you the comfort you are looking for in a hostel. And with comfort, we mean good quality relaxation and an excellent stay.
It is situated on Bui Vien Street in Saigonâs backpacker, only a 3-minute walk to Ben Thanh Market. The poshtel gives you the convenience of sightseeing and exploring the city of Ho Chi Minh.
And if you are eyeing to try Vietnamese foods, City Poshtel has a restaurant that you can surprisingly enjoy and have a taste of Vietnam just within the hostel, so you no longer have to go far.
Amenities you can enjoy at the City Poshtel:
- FREE WiFi
- Restaurant
- 24 Hour Front desk
- Fax and Photocopy Machine
The hostels offer a paid airport shuttle service for convenience and to avoid hassled arrangements. Always ask the price first; a general rule for travelers!
Sight-seeing?
Location: The City Poshtel is just a few minutes away from Ho Chi Minhâs must-see tourist spots, which include the Fine Arts Museum, Ben Thanh Market, Reunification Palace, and Takashimaya Vietnam.
A perfect combination to shop, explore, and learn more about Vietnam.
This is one of the best hostels in Ho Chi Minh City for
- Small groups
- Families
CLOSED: The Dorm Saigon – Best hostel for Small Groups
Like any other dorm, The Dorm Saigon aims to link travelers and like-minded people from all around the world through the hostel and make a whole new perspective of a hostel.
The Dorm Saigon was created to complete your stay in Vietnam.
The hostel is great for a small group of travelers and offers good room deals for sharing. But if you are more into an intimate room vibe, The Dorm offers private rooms at affordable prices you can avail of.
Breaking the busy city ambiance, the hostel offers a garden and a boasting terrace where you can still have a smell of fresh air in the middle of the city.
And if you are into shopping, Vincom Shopping Center can be reached within 1.1 km only.
The hostel is also a short distance from Union Square, Saigon Opera House, and Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral. A good deal to enjoy the city, explore the culture and shop at the same time.
