Quick Introduction to Bogotá Hostels
Average price for a bed: A bed in a dorm can be as cheap as 6€ up to 11€ per night. A private in a Bogota hostel starts from 20€ per night and goes up to 40€ per night.
You see, the hostels in Bogota are quite affordable; perfect, right?! This is a rough average to give you an idea. Prices always depend on season and holidays. Please always check exact rates on Hostelworld.com or Booking.com.
Check-In and Check Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3pm), while the Check Out time is before 11:00 (11am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.
Credit Card Commission: Taxes are included in the booking price, but many hostels Bogota will add a 5-8% commission on card payments. This can add up quickly so consider arriving with the correct cash at check in. Ask before you pay and ask if an ATM is nearby.
Safety Tips: When arriving at the Airport, only take official cabs. It is safe and other unofficial cabs might be a scam and over-over-overcharge you. The most common crime in Bogota is Pickpocketing. It mostly happens on crowded buses and on the TransMilenio. The good news, once you know this, it can easily be avoided. Just keep your bag near you (not on the back).
Robbery and mockery also happen, unfortunately. Best idea is to avoid dark and lonely streets. Also, it is best to go in a group of 3 or more. The absolute best idea is to ask at your hostel when you arrive. Ask them if there is anything you need to be aware of and what to avoid. The know the latest news and tips.

2. Spotty Hostels
Spotty Hostels or Spotty Bogota Centro is great and very modern place to stay. The rooms are perfect. They are not big by surface, but they are very well designed layout and have very convenient furniture: kitchen, closet with 4 drawers, desk with drawers and shelves on top, extra shelves, folding table for eating and very comfy desk chair. Even the bathroom has two drawers and the mirror door with shelves. We would absolutely recommend this place if you come for long stays.
The common areas are next level too. They have game room, at least 3 different rooftops, gym, pool (although Bogota is not a very warm town as the rest of the country) and many areas for study and working in group or individually. Lastly we have to mention the laundry room which is the best we’ve ever seen in any hostel so far.
Safety in this hostel is paramount. You need a keycard to get into the building, into the lifts and into your rooms.

The shower area is separate from the sinks and toilet and there is a small kitchen inside the room with a microwave and other kitchen-related utensils. Everything is cleaned on a daily basis by staff. The coworking area is great and the internet is really fast and stable.

Botanico Hostel is located in the most famous, turistic and historic neighbourhood of Bogota, La Candelaria. This house is uniquely known in Bogota for its large tropical garden and the amazing views over all of the city. The house is an architectural jewel.
They have a lovely roof terrace, and that’s a great place for doing yoga every morning. By day enjoy the tropical garden and amazing views and by night fire up a BBQ and get chatting at the bar. The staff organise activities throughout the day and night, too. Breakfast is available at a reasonable cost on the roof terrace.
Rooms have a lot of natural light because of the roof window. Beds are really comfortable with nice thick blankets. There are enough bathrooms so there is no waiting.

Arche Noah Hostel Bogota combines tranquillity in a tropical oasis with a social atmosphere, in a luxurious listed building – it even has a sauna.
It’s slap bang in the centre of Candelaria, with bars and restaurants on the doorstep.
Socialise in the luxurious lounge or at one of the organised events. It’s also possible to book a tour here – just have a chat with the friendly staff. A great place to stay in Bogota for backpackers.

82 Hostel
Yet another cool place to stay in Bogota is the 82 Hostel.

This might be the most “backpacker-type of hostel” in Bogota. People love it here, because it is very easy-going, very friendly, and “the real backpacker vibes”.

More Hostels worth a mention
We have a few more hostels that deserve a recommendation:
Hobu Hostel (homely oasis)
It’s always good to kick start with a stylish hostel that focuses heavily on co-working and co-living spaces.
Hobu Hostel is an oasis for travellers in Bogota. Therefore, it is on top of the list for best places to stay in Bogota.
This is a top choice for digital nomads that are in need of cosy workspaces and top-notch WiFi.
In a city that is still fighting off a reputation as being unsafe, security is a focus at Hobu Hostel Bogota. The reception is manned 24/7.
The entry to the small garden at the front of the building requires you to ring a bell. They will come and unlock the gate to let you in – even if you are returning from a late night of partying.
Compare prices and read reviews at: Booking.com | Hostelworld | Hostelz.com
The usual mixed dorms are on offer, with 4-8 bed options. Either that or splash out on a homely private with premium bedding. The dorm bunks were specially designed and built by a local steel company.
Suspended from the ceiling and able to support up to two tonnes apparently – I’m not sure how they tested this though and probably best not to ask.
Either way, your traveller needs shall be met with personal lockers and power sockets. It’s the little things that count after all.
Team Hobu really do care that you have a great time. They’ll even arrange for someone to collect you from the airport!
In fact, there’s a free concierge service during your time inside and outside of Hobu.
Now that’s pretty cool.
Honestly, there’s a lot to mention about the #1 hostel. Here’s a handy, concise list:
- 24-hour reception
- Towels + linen included
- Lounge w/ fireplace
- On-site bar
- Breakfast included
What about the location?
Whilst a majority of Bogota hostels are in the more busy and touristy La Candelaria district, Chapinero connects this area and downtown well and offers much quieter streets – meaning very little late night noise.
Chapinero was once a very high-class part of town and today is still a mix of upmarket residential property and businesses.
Be sure to ride the cable car to Mount Monserrate for beautiful views across the city.
And location wise? Within minutes of Hobu is a busy shopping street with restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies and ATMs available. Bus services throughout the city and taxis can be caught from here.
Just around 3 blocks, you will find two of the best clubs in the city: Theatron y Video Club. As well as bars and pubs as BBC Artisan Beer and BBC Bodega.
Very close, you will also find local restaurants with yummy food. The team at Hobu Hostel do recommend:
- Amen Ramen
- Statua rota
- Arepas La Reina
- and many more
In a nearby area, you can also find the premium cafes, bars and restaurants.
Good to know: card payments incur an 8% commission fee. Better pay in cash as a real backpacker in Bogota and Colombia!

Republica Hostel Cabin Beds
We hear you are also looking for the best hostels in Chapinero Bogota, let us introduce you to Republica Hostel Bogota with a perfect location for those travellers interested in nightlife, food and Salsa music.
This is a sweet little hostel that’s super cosy and offers nice activities.
Not to mention the onsite bar with good prices that won’t break your travel bank!
You can also visit the historical center, La Candelaria, which is around 10km from this hostel. The best way to get here is via bus or taxi. Taxis are cheap! Rememeber to ask your hostel to order a taxi for you; do not jump in any random one on the street. You can also use Apps like Uber – they work well.
What else does it offer?
- Bunk beds
- Security deposit boxes
- 24 hours front desk and
- Bike hire
And just so you know, this was our first hostel in Bogota: The Republica Hostel! They run several hostels across Colombia, we mention them in our guide to best hostels in Colombia.

The cabin beds are certainly worth writing home about – check out how big they are!
Each dorm room is kept nice and small in numbers of beds, too. Choose between 4 or 6-beds depending on how sociable you’re feeling. Each bed comes with a charging socket, reading lamp & private locker.
Oh and of course; a privacy curtain – very important.
Couples will also really enjoy it here thanks to the deluxe double room. If you’re on more of a budget you can opt for the economy double room instead.
When it comes to socialising, the best place to hang out is the little garden area. This is a nice place to enjoy a cold drink, for sure.
Otherwise you can relax right next to the garden in the living room with a good book or a movie.
We met here so many cool people from all over the world. We played the typical social game from Colombia “Rana” (Frog), had drinks, shared stories and even head out afterwards. The good thing about Republica: Backpackers and guests try to head out to a bar after dinner-time. This way the people who want to rest and the others, well, dive into the nightlife of Bogota.
Also: The shared computers are super handy if you want to send an email home or check your social media.
What about the WiFi? Super Fast! We actually stayed here several days because we had as well work to do. Quick as a bunny and therefore a top hostel for Digital Nomads visiting Bogota.

That stands not only for Bogota, but anywhere else in the world you choose to explore!

Granada Hostel
Vibrant Granada Hostel is an extra-comfortable stay with newly refurbished bathrooms and high-pressure water system.
We really enjoy the bright decor here, as well as the cool wall art which is all over the property.
Other highlights include:
- Patio bar
- Hammocks & hammock floor net
- 24/7 hot water (rare in the historical centre!)
There’s a mix of dorm rooms with 4, 6 and 8-beds, plus private options which include a superior queen & king double.

CLOSED: Fernweh Photography Hostel (hammock life)
Update: Sorry to tell you that this hostel permanently closed its doors in 2021.
The absolute best hostel in Bogota for Backpackers: Fernweh Photography Hostel!
Instead of beds and reading lamps, Fernweh Photography Hostel has focused on building an ambience that can inspire.
If you can enjoy a chilled, familiar and cosy hostel; this is definitely your place. With travelling usually comes photography and here the two have been beautifully mixed into the design and ambience.
Fernweh Photography is the perfect place for the backpacker in Bogota.
The rooms come in sizes of 4 or 9-bed mixed dorms and private rooms.
Hot showers and WiFi are included in all, but the 4-bed dorm is the only one with a private bathroom. Pay attention to this when booking your spot.
After a long day you might enjoy winding down by the fire in the garden. Of course, you can also join the fun times in the common area. It is a really social hostel; perfect for backpacking Bogota.
What else?
- Huge fully fitted kitchen
- Photography courses
- Chill out zone
- Friendly, English speaking staff
Guess what? If it’s quiet you may be eligible for a late 6 pm check out at no extra cost!
Fernweh is situated in downtown Bogota, in an area called La Candelaria, surrounded by bars, restaurants and shops.
Cool to know: The word “Fernweh” is German and it means something like “farsickness” or longing for far-off places. It is the exact opposite of “homesickness”. So instead of wishing you are at home, you wish to be far away and be traveling. A handy word, right?!
CLOSED: Casa Cubil Design Hostel
Update: Casa Cubil has sadly closed its door permanently.
Another great solo traveller option for a hostel Bogota in Colombia is Casa Cubil Design Hostel.
Privacy, comfort and decor are paramount here and the Cubils (or pods) are second to none. Some dorms even have double bed cubils!
We rate this hostel the best choice for travellers in need of downtime and no social pressure.
Hideaway in your private space or relax in the living room and get chatting with fellow travellers – the choice is yours.
CLOSED: Aurora Hostel (private dorm beds)
Take off your shoes and instantly relax as you enter the beautifully simplistic Aurora Hostel, our #3 on the list.
Here there is space for just 18 travellers at a time – a home away from home. Seriously, this is cosy and perfect for anyone who wants to stay away from bigger crowds. It’s obvious that nature plays a big part when the design is primarily wood and plants. The brown, green and white tones blend perfectly together and create a super relaxed vibe.
We highly recommend Aurora Hostel as one of the safe hostels in Bogota. It’s located in a safe and quiet neighborhood called Quinta Camacho. It’s even okay to go out around here at night.
So here you have it: the best neighborhood to stay in Bogota is Quinta Camacho, the old part of Chapinero. Here you can find still find original houses; perfect for your instagram game. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. Reception is also open 24 hours which means round the clock hostel security and no reason to worry.
The main Bogota Bus Station is called “Terminal de Transporte de Bogota, Salitre”.
We highlighted the Bogota Bus terminal in the map. We did not find a cool Bogota hostel near the bus station; at least nothing we can actually recommend – sorry!
Choose from:
- 6-8 bed mixed dorms
- Double room with and without bathroom
Unlike many other hostels in Bogota, Aurora has included privacy curtains in dorm rooms.
This is a great choice for travellers looking for a safe, quiet stay. Located only 20-minutes from Zona G, great nightlife is still easily accessible if you’d like.
Bogota won’t be offended if you decide to stay at the hostel all day. Why wouldn’t you when there’s:
- A terrace, patio + living room to enjoy a cold beer
- A delicious breakfast at a reasonable price
- Salsa lessons
- 24-hour reception
Aurora follows a strict sustainability policy. That means saving energy where possible and the use and promotion of local products. Great!
Aurora Hostel is the best hostel in Bogota for:
- Solo travellers
- Adults (meaning travelers +25 years old)
- Older Travelers (meaning +45 years old)
CLOSED: Casa Bellavista Hostel
We found another great hostel to stay in Bogota with the best location: Casa Bellavista Hostel.
This hostel in Bogota is part of the street culture, surrounded by graffiti, street art and pubs with lovely Colombian Live Music.
What else is great about this hostel?
They organise and encourage you to participate in all the activities they organise, from walking tours to El Cerro Monserrate, ecological walks to La Chorrera (Waterfall), cycling tours around the city and pub crawls to La Zona Rosa, where all the bars, nightclubs and fine restaurants are.
