Quick Introduction to Granada, Spain

Average price for a bed: Granada Hostels cost 12€ – 14€ per night for a bed in a dorm. A private room starts from 31€ up to 77€ per night. This is a rough average just to give you an idea.

Prices always depend on season and holidays. Please always check exact rates on Hostelworld.com or Booking.com.

Check-In and Check Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3pm), while the Check Out time is before 11:00 (11am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.

1. ECO Hostel

It’s all about the urban vibe and nature related design at ECO Hostel Granada. The clue is in the name!

Wander round and spot recycled materials, minimalist design and a fresh decor that lets in plenty of light.

Though not a party hostel, there is something happening here every night:

  • Tortilla & Gazpacho courses
  • Paella evenings
  • Yummy mojitos
  • Movie nights & games

This is your opportunity to mingle with people from around the world and get social.

Hang out in the living room, kitchen, cafe and cinema room – there is so much space to stretch out in.

2. Oripando Hostel

How about a small, family-run hostel that’s complete with cosy vibes and a swimming pool? Welcome to Oripando Hostel!

It certainly has a romantic vibe, which is why we recommend this first and foremost to couples.

Afterall, there’s a deluxe queen suite and an apartment with pool view to choose from!

However, if you prefer to share a room with other travellers, the cute 4 and 6-bed dorms are a wonderful option. Just bear in mind that the rooms are rather small.

When you feel like socialising or simply relaxing at the hostel, make the most of:

  • Shared lounge
  • Garden area, rooftop + tiny pool
  • Shared kitchen
  • Sun terrace

The Moroccan inspired decor of the hostel is absolutely gorgeous, too!

You’ll always find other people gathered on the rooftop and in the garden, so this is a wonderful place to meet new people if you’re travelling solo.

The staff here are very helpful and will gladly help you with trips outside of Granada, including via ferrata and hiking.

Location: Situated in the heart of the most beautiful historic neighborhoor of Granada, the Albaycin. From here it’s an easy walk to main attractions in Granada city center including the Alhambra and the best tapas bars in town.

3. Hostel Nut

Hostel Nut is definitely the once to pick if you’re in the mood for a bit of luxury (on a budget).

For one thing, EVERY room in the building comes with a private bathroom. And yes, that does include the shared dorms!

It’s no wonder then that we’d recommend Hostel Nut first and foremost to female solo travellers. There are female only dorms and every bed comes with…

  • Air conditioning/heating system
  • Blackout curtain
  • Reading light
  • USB & charging plugs

So even though you might decide to choose a shared dorm, you will be guaranteed your independent space when you need it.

Alongside mixed & female dorms, there are also family room and deluxe double rooms ideal for couples.

Ok, so what about the socialising aspect?

The atmosphere here is pretty low key. There’s a no alcohol policy and no organised activities.

However, the beautiful common area is a great place to hang out. Simply start a conversation or enjoy a good book here.

Good to know: There is no curfew so you can always go out in the evening to enjoy the town.

There’s also a communal kitchen on site to help you save money.

Location: Right in the city center close to Albaicin, Granada Cathedral and Granada Science Park. The hostel offers a paid airport shuttle service, and Federico Garcia Lorca Granada-Jaen is 23km from the property.

7 local secret tips (+ what to prepare – Read this!!)

Granada is one of our favorite cities in South of Spain. The Alhambra is a magnificent building, the Albaicín simply marvelous, and the food, oh boy!

And right here: We share 7 Secret Tips Granada you won’t find anywhere else.

The historic city of Granada is unique in many ways. It is a must-visit destination when visiting the Andalusian cities of Sevilla and Córdoba. The majestic Alhambra, a Moorish citadel and palace, is watching over the city while in the background the snowy top of the Sierra Nevada appears to finish the perfect scenery of Granada.

Let us kick off with the most important task for you to prepare your trip!

1. Make your reservation for La Alhambra

It is very important to make your reservation for La Alhambra as soon as possible!

The entrance for the palace at La Alhambra is limited, and as you have might seen already, this is THE attraction in Granada.

Therefore, to make sure you can actually enter the palace, get your ticket.

It is 100% worth it to enter Alhambra, so jump to the link below and get your ticket now! You can buy your ticket here at Get Your Guide or Tiqets.com

When to visit: We would actually recommend to visit La Alhambra in the early morning when there is less people, and it is not that hot.

Also, do not miss out on the gardens of Alhambra, the Generalife. When entering and being blown away by the magnificent Alhambra, don’t forget to visit the gardens. They are a bit more “hidden”, so look for them and follow the signs. Some people missed out on them, simply because they had no idea it was worth it.

But you know better now!! 🙂

2. Sacromonte – breathtaking view!

This place requires stamina, and good shoes!

Sacromonte is located at the very top of Albayzin, passing all those hippie houses on the upper level of Albayzin.

From here you have a breathtaking view all over Granada, the Sierra Nevada, and surroundings.

We love to be here for the sunset, and there are usually just a few people around. Bring some snacks, drinks, and your camera – you will most likely wanna stay here for some time.

Address: Sacromonte, Granada

3. Los Diamantes Tapas Bar – Local!

This bar is a local place to get some tapas, and a cold beverage.

Just order at the bar, and you will get a big plate with delicious Spanish food.

You will find here any type of tapas.

Don’t be shy to ask in case you don’t know what the dishes mean: the bar tenders are happy to help.

IMPORTANT: There is another Los Diamantes Bar which belongs to the same owner, located at the main square.

However, don’t get confused as this one is more expensive, and a more tourist-version of the authentic one!

Therefore, check out the address below to end up at our recommended place!

Address: Calle Navas, 28, Granada, Spain

4. Bohemia Jazz Café & Bar

This Jazz café is a bohemian place with a big soul: plenty of books, a piano, old frames, …!

They organize different concerts, events, feature a fun bohemian design, and if you feel like playing the piano, go ahead!

Come here to enjoy a night out to mingle with the locals.

The milkshakes, smoothies, and also cocktails are famous here!

Follow Bohemia Jazz Café & bar on Facebook for updates.

Address: Plaza de los Lobos, 44, 18002 Granada, Spain

5. La Vinoteca – great food

The Vinoteca is Mediterranean restaurant with different typical Spanish food.

You can get here just a drink and you will get a simple tapa with it. During the day there are daily menus for a great price.

The restaurant is located in an old tavern, and if you fancy trying some local wine, try “vinos con D.O. Granada” (it simply means wine from the region of Granada).

Address: La Vinoteca Calle Almireceros, 518010 Granada, Spain

6. Casa Torcuato del Albayzin

Neighborhood feeling par excellence!

This tapas restaurant is located right in the old town, the Albayzin.

Enjoy the tapas at the outdoor terrace sitting under an orange tree  – a recommended by locals!

And don’t be afraid to talk to strangers.

The Andalusian culture is very open, and people love to socialize!

Address: Calle Pagés, 31, 18010 Granada, Spain

7. The obvious things to do: get Lost in Albayzin

We thought this might be interesting for you as well. The obvious things to do in Granada is getting lost in the gorgeous district of Albayzin.

This neighborhood is declared as an UNESCO world heritage where small narrowed streets climb up the mountain next to La Alhambra.

This district was unpopular for the kings as when a revolution started, the soldiers could not enter this area very easily – this made this neighborhood even more popular for locals.

However, have a coffee or tea, visit the numerous art galleries, or just sit at one of the many small squares.

And for sure you will also pass the “Mirador de San Nicolas”, another look out point but with way more tourists than Sacromonte (Tip #1).

CLOSED: Granada Inn Backpackers

Update: Backpackers Inn Granada has now become an apartment accommodation instead of a hostel.

Sometimes less words and more experience is better. At Granada Inn Backpackers, the philosophy is:

“ShareINN the experience.”

So with that being said, it’s up to them to help you to share your Granada experience with others.

And boy, have they gone to great lengths with…

  • FREE breakfast on the outdoor terrace
  • FREE daily city tour
  • Paella & sangria party evenings
  • Coffee and relaxing music all day
  • Big, social dorms

No doubt these inclusions will help the social vibes and conversation flow.

The reception is open 24/7, and friendly faces will greet you. They have a lot of knowledge about the area, so don’t be shy in chatting with them.

They can also help book excursions to the Alhambra, Flamenco show and Hamman bath.

As for rooms? There are many options to throw down your bag.

Shared dorms come with 8, 10 and 12-beds. There is also a 6-bed female only dorm.

Each bed has its very own reading light, socket and big locker space. There are also seating areas and air conditioning in each room.

If you prefer privacy, there is a triple, double and deluxe apartment to consider. The apartment is great for groups of up to 8!

Location: Situated in a privileged part of central Granada. The cathedral is a 10-minute walk, and it’s 20-minutes to the Alhambra.

CLOSED: Lemon Rock Hostel

Update: Lemon Rock is no longer a hostel, but a cool bar & restaurant instead.

Lemon Rock Hostel offers a really cool vintage style and an obvious passion for music.

In fact, music is so critical to the soul of this place because “music brings people together” right?

The mix of modern and industrial style is pretty cool. It’s within a Manor House with an Andalusian courtyard built in the XVII century.

By far the number one area to hang out in is the bar.

It’s composed of several areas including a restaurant and chill out zone with free WiFi. Wait until you see that food menu – vegetarian, vegan, traditional, you name it!

There is all sorts happening here too, including live music and science talks.

It’s quite a big place, with 73 beds distributed over 12 rooms. And each room has a private bathroom – get in.

Let’s have a look at the options:

  • 6, 8 and 12-bed mixed dorm
  • 6-bed female dorm
  • 4, 5 and 6-bed private rooms

They’re all beautifully bright and spacious and will have you feeling at home in no time.

Location: This is an old town hostel in the historical centre of Granada, five minutes from the cathedral.
