Las Palmas is the capital of one of the main Canary islands and by far one of my favourite cities in the world: it somehow manages to be large enough to provide you with your fill of cultures such as comedy clubs, bars and clubs, theatres, live concerts, and all kinds of other cool events, yet thanks to its location right on the beach it is still mellow and laid back enough that you don’t feel stressed or overwhelmed.

One of my favourite things about the city is that it’s divided into its more modern area next to Las Canteras, a super long stretch of beaches that can easily take a forty or even 50-minute walk to explore, and the old town, Vegueta and Triana. Las Canteras is probably where you will spend most of the day, lounging on the beach, grabbing lunch at one of the many cafes lining the walkway along the beach, and enjoying the street performers and sunshine while sipping on a beer.
Vegeta and Triana are really beautiful areas to explore and offer more of your typical European city centre vibes, with plenty of shopping, museums, and cafes. With all of that said, let’s dive into some of the best hostels in the city!

1. Agüita House
Agüita House has a shared lounge and rooftop for socializing and you can even ask to bring your pet, though breakfast is not offered and payment upon arrival is only in cash.
While it’s not the most luxurious or cleanest hostel, it has a really nice vibe for socializing and enjoying the rooftop barbecues organized by the staff. They also offer security lockers, a book exchange and board games, a washing machine and towels for hire.
Overall, this is your place if you’re not super fussy about squeaky beds and are looking to be right by the beach and enjoy the nightlife. Prices range from 18 euros for a four-bed mixed dorm to 30 euros for the more luxurious six-bed mixed dorm.
If you stay here, I recommend checking out Camaleon Cubatas Bar, as it has huge portions of Cuba Libres for super cheap and is quite popular with digital nomads and expats.
Location: The location of this hostel is perfect for you beach lovers, as it is situated right in the middle of the Las Canteras Paseo (walkway), a spot which is also perfect for taking advantage of the nightlife.

2. Albergue Gran Canaria
Albergue Gran Canaria has a common room, outdoor terrace, kitchen, dishwasher, hair dryers, a book exchange and board games, and reading lights. People are generally super happy with their stays here and although it’s not super close to the centre.
The staff are really friendly and the building itself, a renovated colonial-style house, is clean and has a stellar kitchen, something I really prioritize in my accommodation!
The prices range from 64 euros for a three-bed private room to 24 euros for a seven-bed mixed dorm, and single-gender rooms are not an option here.
Location: Geared towards backpackers, this hostel is quite far from the city centre (a 50-minute bus ride to Las Canteras Beach and 30 minutes to the old city), but what it lacks in location it makes up for in the welcoming vibe of the staff members.
If you’re travelling by car, the distance shouldn’t be a problem (but definitely keep in mind that parking in the city centre is usually paid,) but if you’re using public transport remember that holidays do have a less frequent schedule of buses and you could find yourself in a sticky position.
That said, taxis are quite cheap in Las Palmas and a great option if there are multiple people going into town! Check-in is from 17 to 22 and checkout is at 11 (though for an additional fee, you can check in later), breakfast and towels are included, and only guests over the age of 18 are allowed.

3. Tamaran House
Experience the ultimate luxury at the Tamaran House, located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria! This cosy hostel offers a superb sea view, a fully equipped kitchen, and a rooftop ideal for social gatherings.
Book one of the rooms with an en-suite bathroom or a shared one, with a private balcony in the “La Palma” room.
With helpful and friendly staff and a strong Wi-Fi connection, this is the perfect choice for all the digital nomads, night owls and luxury seekers!

Ventana Azul Surf Hostel boasts three floors with a dining room, big sofas, a library and coworking space, surfboard and wetsuit storage, an open-air kitchen with a BBQ, an open-air shower, and even curtains on the bunk beds.
They also have adaptors, hair dryers, a book exchange and board games, ceiling fans and reading lights, bike parking, and a washing machine. They have 24h reception with flexible check-in and check-out and offer airport transfers and parking, although towels and breakfast are not included.
The staff is welcoming and helpful in booking tours of classes for you, and the laid-back surfer vibes make it easy to connect with new people and make friends.
Prices range from 113 euros for a four-bed private room with a bathroom to 24 euros for a six-bed mixed dorm or 27 for a female-only room, and they encourage you to ask for discounts for long-term stays!
Location: The perfect hostel for surfers, you are directly in front of Playa La Cicer, where most surf schools and the best wave of Las Canteras is located.

Lua Lua Hostel
Located a five-minute walk away from the beach, this adult-only hostel has a really nice vibe and is a great place to meet people thanks to its common area, kitchen, and rooftop with curtained-off mini pavilions for a more intimate feel.
Lua Lua Hostel has 24h reception with flexible check-in and check-out, an electronic lock to get into the hostel, airport transfers with an additional fee, a book exchange, lockers, cameras in the common areas, towels, and a pretty decent kitchen with two fridges and individual cubbies for storing your food.
While the bathrooms aren’t the most comfortable or spacious, if you’re looking for a solid location and a great socializing vibe, this place is for you. The prices are super reasonable at 20 euros for a six-bed mixed dorm and 21 for four beds.

Summary
To wrap up, you have many hostels to choose from with different price ranges, locations, and atmospheres. Whatever you decide, rest assured that you will find many other travellers staying and even living in Las Palmas: it’s quite common that people come here for a one-week holiday and end up staying for months or even years, myself being a primary example 🙂
This city has so much to offer from beaches to live music, surfing, incredible food, awesome hiking, and so much more. Something definitely worth checking out during your stay is the Tapas night in Vegueta, where every restaurant and cafe offers a sweet deal of beer/wine along with a tapa (small appetizer) for just a few euros, giving you the opportunity to try different drinks and foods while socializing with the many other travellers that come to enjoy the food and general vibe.
Las Palmas is a super safe city where you can walk alone at night without any problems, but do ask someone to keep an eye on your things on the beach if you go swimming or snorkelling for a longer period of time, just to be safe 🙂
Remember to pack your bathing suit, sunscreen, snorkelling gear, and a couple of nice outfits to wear when you go out drinking or dancing, something that is easy to do every night of the week.
Another great tip is to stop by one of the many shops that sell bus cards, as this will give you a chance to use the buses at half the price you would otherwise pay in cash. A cool part of the culture here on the island is the cave houses, something you can see a lot of in Barranco de Guayadeque.
Last but not least, I would really encourage you to take advantage of the gorgeous nature on the island and explore the centre where you can do some hiking around Roque Nublo, Pico de las Nieves, Roque Bentayga, and many other spots. Enjoy your holiday and make sure to eat some papas arrugadas with mojo while here, you’ll thank me later!
