Caminito del Rey: Add the gorgeous Caminito del Rey to your bucket list. It is an adventurous walk-way pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, near Malaga.There is only limited space for visitors per day. You need to book your tour at least 30 days before – we did not know that and had to skip this 🙁 . Book your tour here – ahead of time.
Semana Santa/ Easter: During Easter, the city is packed. Make sure you book your place asap, and ask the reception for their tips to see the impressive processions. We have been visiting during “Semana Santa” in 2018 – unique experience!

Every room, whether it’s shared or private, has a gorgeous jungle theme. All 10 rooms come with natural light, positive vibes and that homely feel. Choose between 4, 6, 8 and 10-bed dorms and gorgeously cosy private rooms. There are actually two female dorms – one of which is superior. Plenty of space, thoughtful amenities and added privacy is all included.
It’s worth it to mention, all beds in the dorm have their curtain for privacy, power outlets and lights. Hurray, we love that in a cool hostel!

2. The Lights Hostel (social vibes + central)
The friendly social space of The Lights Hostel is within an emblematic historical building very close to Malaga Central Market.
This would be the Youth Hostel Malaga has to offer. Two things that will surely entice you are the rooftop terrace and free walking tours.
Not only that but every single one of the rooms has a balcony with city views. Add this to the sturdy bunks, air-con and spacious lockers and you’re in for a great night’s rest.

We recommend renting one of the bikes to explore the city once you’ve checked in.
Wander around and you’ll find more chill areas including a cosy living room equipped with guitars and books. There are also cute ‘under the stairs’ sofa areas, too.

One thing that makes this is a super snazzy hostel is that all of the rooms come with a private bathroom – woohoo!

We had a close look on where solo-travelers will have the best time. You will love the following two places, we have already mentioned before:

We especially love to hang out at the roof top terrace, listen to Spanish music and have a drink with new hostel mates. Both Urban Jungle and The Lights have a roof top terrace. This is the absolute coolest during the hot summer nights!
Another option for solo-travellers in the Bohemian area of Soho is Feel Hostels Soho Malaga.
This is a great all-rounder for solo travellers as there is the option to mingle, or keep yourself to yourself.
Join in paella nights, weekend parties (with cocktails) or relax with a book on the terrace or in the TV room. There’s a 2€ breakfast and great staff that love to help with your plans.

Best Party Hostels in Malaga?
Of course there is always a bunch of party hostels in Spain, and so in this town. And sure, there’s a big difference between party-traveler and solo-traveler. Therefore, we have this separated in this guide.
Update: Casa Babylon permanently closed its doors in 2020. Right now we do not have a party hostel recommendation to take its place.
If you’re looking to party on an outdoor terrace with attached bar, then you’ll love staying at Casa Babylon Malaga Backpackers.
On the flip-side, there is a great chill-out area kitted out with hammocks and guitars.
Mixed dorms come with 4, 6 and 8-beds and they’ll be ready-made on your arrival.
Make sure you bring enough thirst with you and energy. That can be some long nights ahead! Casa Babylon is a great place to stay in Malaga for young party looking for a fun youth hostel.
The best party hostel Malaga is set in a lovely neighbourhood in the city center, just 20 minutes’ walk from Gibralfaro. The garden is the place to be to join the Paella parties, concerts, beer pong parties etc.
It is not a super crazy party hostel only for young people, but for everyone looking for some party vibes.

A cute, lovely design and boutique hostel in the city center.
Picnic Dreams can be a great hostel too. It is clean, safe and hip. The downside is the hostel is on a loud street, and this can be a bit to loud at night.
Another con is the kitchen, which is basically only a microwave and fridge. Personally, it is frustrating when a hostel advertises a hostel and then all I get is half a kitchen, basically. Besides that, a great option.

Malaga Stop Hostel AB
Just want a quiet time in a hostel? Then Stop Hostel AB is your place.
The hostel is well designed, super clean and the staff is so lovely. Ask them for their best tapas bars, you will love them – both the staff and tapas.
Few of the rooms are interior with no window. Personally, I really do not like this. I love to see outside and to see if it’s day or night.
This place is a great budget accommodation, but not a social hostel to meet and greet really.

Larios Cool Hostel
Larios Cool Hostel is in a perfect location because it is quiet which is great for backpackers who wants to rest after a long day exploring the city centre.
Located in the Malaga Centro district in Málaga, 100 m from Calle Larios and 200 m from the Malaga Cathedral. Carmen Thyssen Museum is 300 m from Larios Cool Hostel, while Picasso Museum is 400 m away. Malaga Airport is 8 km from the property.

Airbnb is always an interesting option, right?! It can be cheaper, more comfy even.
However, please note that renting a full apartment in Airbnb in Malaga and Spain can be illegal. Not for your part as a tourist, but since the owner most likely will not have a proper license to rent.
Anyways, you can also rent a private room in Airbnb. This is not illegal, and can be a fantastic way to meet locals.
When looking for rooms on Airbnb, read the reviews to see if the owners of the place actually socialize and mingle or simply rent out.
Good to know: We even heard of a traveler that did not receive the keys by the owners. He had to call the owner all the time to check if someone is at home so he can get in. One night he went out for a few drinks. And since he didn’t want to disturb, he booked another night in an expensive hotel. Make sure this is not what will happen to you.
