Update: The following hostels below were once in our top 3 hostel recommendations but have sadly now closed.

CLOSED: Rambler Pocitos Hostel

We chose Rambler Pocitos Hostel as #1 because of two main things:

  1. The friendly, welcoming and helpful staff
    2. A fabulous location in central Montevideo

From here, it’s a mere 5-minute stroll to ‘Rambla’ and its beaches. There is also a handy bus stop a block away which connects you to any part of the city in no time.

This is a cosy hostel, a typical home-away-from-home that’s great for meeting new people and relaxing.

The main focus is on dorm rooms, though there is a double room as well.

Dorms come with 5, 7, 8 and 10-beds, and they are all mixed. I think you’ll agree that they look super comfy!

FYI: Each bed comes with a personal reading lamp and charging socket.

So what about the social aspect?

Surely the best place to hang out is on the ROOFTOP with a BAR. Woo!

There are also other really cool common spaces, including:

  • Huge living & dining area
  • Playroom with piano, guitar & hammock
  • BBQ area
  • Retro-Style studio for relaxing

Little important details include a 24/7 reception and an affordable breakfast every morning.

Location: In a residential neighbourhood with access to cafes, restaurants and shops. This is the closest hostel to Carrasco International Airport.

CLOSED: Habemus Hostel

Kick back and enjoy an authentic stay at this freshly refurbished 1950’s house.

“Habemus Hostel was built to fulfil backpackers needs while offering unique decor and high-comfort”.

This place just oozes traveller vibes and an easy-going approach to life.

To mix it up a bit, the bunkbeds in this hostel are a stack of three – we hope you’re ok with heights!

Each personal space is perfectly designed with you in mind. Enjoy a little shelf, lamp, socket and ready-made bed. Lovely.

The room choices look like this:

  • 4, 6 and 9-bed mixed dorms
  • 6-bed female dorm
  • Twin private
  • Double private

All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, so don’t sweat it.

Wanna hear something cool? This hostel has a gorgeous pet dog! He appears to love a constant flow of new friends.

Also, the breakfast here is free. What a way to start your day. In the evening, make use of the fully renovated kitchen and catering facilities.

Outside there is a massive patio area where you can enjoy a fresh cuppa or a cold brew under the shade of an avocado tree.

Location: Situated in the Cordón area, just moments from the major attractions. Stay here and you’ll be surrounded by good bars, cafes and restaurants.
