Quick Introduction to Pisa
Average price for a bed: Hostels in Pisa have an average price of about €30 per night for a bed in a dorm. A private room has an average price of around €80 per night. This is a rough average, just to give you an idea.
Prices always depend on the season and holidays. Please always check the exact rates on Hostelz.com or Hostelworld.com.
Check-In and Check-Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3 pm), while the Check-Out time is before 11:00 (11 am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.
Food tip: Some restaurants in Pisa charge you for the bread (or breadsticks), so if you’re on a budget, ask if the price is included and if it isn’t, maybe pass on the bread.
Things to see in Pisa: You’re probably coming here for the tower, but the city actually has around 20 other historical monuments, including medieval palaces, bridges, and churches.
While they might not be as famous as the tower, they are still very much worth a visit!
When to go to Pisa: Most people in Europe tend to travel during summer, as this is when they usually take their breaks. But if you can, we recommend visiting right before or after, in either spring or autumn.
The weather will still be nice, and you’ll notice that accommodation prices are going down (as well as the crowds).
Some of the best Pizza in Pisa: We don’t really think there is such a thing as ‘the best pizza in Italy’ because everyone has wildly different tastes.
But, if you want to try some of our favorite Pizza in Pisa, head over to La Taverna di Pulcinella or Il Pizzomane. Your taste buds and stomach will thank you (unless you’re lactose intolerant… in which case, good luck).

We really like the overall Pop Art design of this hostel as well as the fact that, although it’s small, there always seems to be something going on – from a chess game to a guitar session near the fireplace.
The staff here is incredibly friendly and will give you great tips on things to do in Pisa, and they even have an adorable resident dog – say hi to Biro for us.
Location: The Pisa tower is a 2-minute walk from this accommodation, and you can actually see it from the street outside the hostel. A bit far from the station but well-connected to buses.

2. Safestay Pisa Hostel
Safestay Pisa Hostel is one of the larger hostels in Pisa, which means it’s perfect if you’re looking for a place with a good number and variety of people to socialize with.
Here, you’ll find:
- A bar and restaurant
- A large common area (with a microwave)
- 24/7 reception
- Billiard

Although we really like their dorms, we’re not big fans of the personal lockers they come with: they’re very small and won’t fit more than a small backpack.
The dorm space is also not large enough to comfortably put suitcases in, and it can get cramped quickly.
We mainly like this hostel because of the highly social atmosphere it has. Here you’ll find travelers of all ages, from couples to solo travelers and groups of backpackers.
They have very large loungers both indoors and outdoors, and it will be very easy for you to meet new people and interact with them.
Location: A 5-minute walk from Pisa Central Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Galileo Galilei Airport.
Many travelers to Pisa stay here overnight to catch a flight the next day – if that’s your case, note that a taxi ride from this hostel to the airport shouldn’t cost you more than 20 euros.

3. B&B da Debora
As its name suggests, B&B da Debora isn’t a hostel; it’s a bed and breakfast. We really tried to look for a third Pisa Hostel to recommend to you, but the truth is: apart from the two we mentioned above, hostels in the area are pretty bad.
This is why we’re recommending this accommodation instead. The good news is that it is still relatively budget-friendly – especially if you’re splitting the bill with a friend or significant other.
Here, you’ll find:
- A shared lounge
- A terrace
- A beautiful garden
- A shared kitchen
- A delicious Italian breakfast (included in the price)

The rooms come with shared bathrooms that are fully equipped with free toiletries. We really like the place’s owner, as she’s incredibly caring and accommodating to both her house and guests.
Although this one is located further off from the Leaning Tower of Pisa, you’ll have the opportunity to rent a bicycle from the B&B. As we said above, Pisa is quite easy to explore via bike.
Location: 15 minutes via bicycle to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The general area is less touristic than what you would expect, and this B&B is near a good variety of non-touristic bakeries and bars.

Simple as that.
