Menorca; you have stolen our heart. These Menorca images and photos capture our passion for this beautiful Mediterranean island.
The small island north of the famous Mallorca controls the access of tourism, and has nearly 50% of its land protected. It is also a declared Biosfere Reserve by the UNESCO. This makes this island spotless and a paradise for the tranquil traveler.
With over 130 sand beaches, Menorca is a wonderful destination for the beach and nature lover. While the beaches in the north are more wild, the south beaches are white and reminded us of the Caribbean. It is a fantastic destination for families visiting Europe.
We have visited Menorca several times. We share with you our travel-time through our photos taken around this beautiful island.
In addition, we put together our 6 secret tips to Menorca. We hope you enjoy the photos and secrets as much as we do.
Hostelgeeks Photographer Francisco Goncalves also traveled here, and shows his story of the girl in Menorca.
The Menorca Images
Those stories we are telling one day in the future, are written today.
Favà ritx Lighthouse
On the north-east end of Menorca, the lighthouse at Cap de Favà ritx takes care of the sea traffic.
Other than most lighthouses, the Favà ritx Lighthouse got a different kind of painting.
Cala Presili, Menorca
From the Favartix Lighthouse, a 20 min walk takes you to two virgin beaches. Cala Presili and Cala Tortuga. Both beaches are equally beautiful and not too many people come here.
It is a double-win for everybody who’s taking this journey.
Platja d’en Tortuga
“Tortuga” simply means “Turtle”.
So why is the beach called “turtle beach”?
In fact, there is a nature reserve right behind the beach which ends in a quite surreal view. Here the marvelous, unspoiled Tortuga beach, there a real nature reserve.
Cala Morell, Menorca
The Cala Morell is one of our best-kept secrets in Menorca.
“My favorite moment in Menorca? Cala Morell.”
Francisco Goncalves, Hostelgeeks Photographer
Located in the north-western part of the island, you can watch the sun saying goodbye behind the end of sea.
The actual sand beach in Cala Morell is nestled within two hills, and from here you cannot enjoy any sunset.
However, along the rocks, Cala Morell comes with stone platforms.
You can walk just here, sit down, put your feet in the sea, go for a swim, or just, well, do nothing.
Ciutadella de Menorca
The second biggest town in Menorca is Ciutadella, located in the north-west of the island. Wandering around the small city is a cosy experience. Many shops, bars, and cafés are to explore, and the mediterranean cuisine can be tried at every corner.
While we enjoyed our worlds most favorite Restaurant “Cap Roig” on the other end of the island, we tried something different in Ciutadella.
The restaurant “La Cayena” is a travelers cuisine with “mucho corazon” (lots of heart).
They will send you on a RTW trip (Round the World Trip) through their cooking delights.
Cala des Talaier
The early bird catches the worm. Small beaches in the south tend to be packed during high season. Families with kids might find it much easier to transport stuff in a beach wagon, rather than carrying bags
So we went on an early hike to enjoy Cala des Talaier without the crowds.
A beauty!
Only 2 more travelers made it here until 8am. One was reading, while the second one enjoyed a refreshing morning swim.
Later on, it will become a bit more crowded.
Cala Algaiarens, Menorca
Cap d’Artrutx in Menorca
Located on the southern-west point of Menorca, this lighthouse comes with an in-lighthouse restaurant. Enjoy some tapas here and go for a walk, it’s worthwhile.
