3 Coolest Party Hostels in Split, Croatia

Coolest Party Hostels in Split

Croatia’s beloved Split, one of the region’s most gorgeous coastal cities, is unquestionably the highlight of the Adriatic. Travelers will find plenty to do and see in Split, from exploring the rocky Old Town to learning the city’s rich Dalmatian history– all before setting sail to one of the many pebbled, postcard-worthy islands.

Split’s nightlife, along with its stunning beaches, friendly locals, and delicious seafood dishes, is a lasting memory for every visitor to Croatia. Thanks to its numerous beachside nightclubs, pub crawls, and of course, Europe’s most famous music festival Ultra held every July, Split is one of Europe’s most populated summer destinations.

There are plenty of hostels in Split for party animals traveling the Balkans seeking sand, sun, and a nice day buzz sunbathing on the shore. With that being said, here are Hostelgeek’s top picks for the best party hostels in Split.

This guide is an extension of our handwritten guide to the best hostels in Split.

Quick Introduction to Split

Average price for a bed: On average, the price of a hostel in Split is around €26 per night. Prices always depend on the season and holidays. Please always check the exact rates on Hostelz.com.

Check-In and Check-Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3 pm), while the Check-Out time is before 11:00 (11 am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.

Book hostels ahead of time: Split is at its busiest during July due to Ultra, so booking hostels ahead of time is essential. Aside from the three-day electronic festival, the summer months are packed with other activities such as food festivals and open-air music performances.

If you can only visit Split during the off-season, try to time your visit to coincide with the carnival season, when Split hosts its own unique carnival celebration.

When to visit: don’t get isolated in the cold! Because many hostels and nightclubs close after October, we recommend planning your trip to Split (or really, any beachside town in the Balkans) during the summer, when you can expect wild nights of clubbing, festivals, and an influx of locals and tourists looking for a carefree time in the Adriatic’s most fun city!

1. Booze & Snooze Social Hostel

If the name wasn’t enough of a much-needed invitation, Booze & Snooze Social Hostel in Split serves “good vibes on tap” and is a backpacker favorite for drunken shenanigans around the city.

Its central location allows visitors to make the most of their time in the city, with the Aussie-owned hostel taking visitors to lesser-known parts of Split while maintaining the international vibe that makes hostels so wonderful.

Guests love the variety of daily activities offered throughout the week, including beach trips, dinners, and group nights out. And best of all, these activities are entirely free, making this hostel a great place to get drunk on a budget.

Booze & Snooze Social Hostel

The hostel has been freshly refurbished and includes three mixed rooms with six, seven, and eleven beds in each, all with their own bathrooms.

Guests enjoy hanging out on the outdoor terrace during the day, and at night it transforms into the hostel’s hotspot for drinking games and beer pong tournaments.

The hostel is within walking distance of the Diocletian Palace and other top Split attractions, so you’ll be able to get in some cultural activities while nursing your hangover. (Note: This hostel is only open from April to September.)

2. Fiesta Siesta Social Hostel

The sister hostel of Booze & Snooze, Fiesta Siesta Social Hostel is the slightly more chaotic twin that boasts the same fun-filled aura but with less sleep and slightly more booze.

Expect noise because this hostel, especially at its peak, transforms into a full-on frat house. The hostel is conveniently located above legendary Charlie’s Bar and is on one of Split’s many pub-filled streets, so alcohol is unavoidable.

Staying at Fiesta Siesta or Booze & Snooze (both are across the street from each other) ensures that you will leave Split with a slew of new friends, as the hostels merge during all of their activities and outings.

The mixed dorm rooms sleep four, six, and eight. Each level of the hostel has its own private toilet and bathroom, so guests won’t have to worry about showers running all night while fighting the alcohol shakes.

Unfortunately, there is no kitchen, but the hostel’s proximity to numerous bars and restaurants makes eating an afterthought.

Staying at one of Split’s two best party hostels automatically enrolls you in a temporary drinking cult, where you’re bound to run into every young, sunburned English speaker while exploring the city. (Note: This hostel is only open from April to September.)

3. Hurricane Hostel

Hurricane Hostel is also in the heart of Split. This is the quieter hostel (but don’t worry, it’s certainly not boring!) of the three, so expect an active crowd, but most importantly, a pleasant place to rest after 11 PM while everyone heads out for the night.

Hurricane Hostel’s staff enjoys showing its guests the best of Split with daily activities and beach trips. During the very hot afternoons, the spacious common room, along with the hostel’s terrace, is a chill space to hang out and play a few rounds of cards.

Ultimately, the hostel takes pride in providing a comfortable and clean environment for guests to connect with other travelers and get a fresh start to their days exploring the city.

The hostel fits a total of 24 people— the perfect, intimate size to meet other travelers and actually remember their names.

There are three mixed dorm rooms, each sleeping nine people, as well as a fully equipped kitchen where guests can cook and share meals.

Hurricane Hostel is the best option for more mature travelers who still want to down a few cases of beer but not miss their flights the next morning. And most importantly, the hostel is open all year!

What about the cheapest hostels in Split?

Of course, there are always cheap hostels. But how do you actually find them? When you are traveling on a shoe-string budget and you want to save every dollar, there are ways to find the cheapest places in Split.

  1. Open Hostelz.com with a full list of all hostels in Split
  2. add your dates
  3. Order the listings by price

Simple as that.

Hostelz.com is a price comparison site for hostels. They list every single one in the world and tells you exactly which website is cheaper to use.

Another smart Tip: Check what is actually included, and what is excluded. Take a closer look at the location, too. A further location might mean more costs in transport.

Our Insider Tips

As mentioned in the beginning, this guide is an extension of our article “best hostels in Split”.

Yet, we have written down more of our best tips for Split.

Bars and pubs are centered in the Old Town, where you’ll find a variety of indoor and outdoor eateries, cafes, and bars to hang out in from morning to night.

The best time to visit Split and enjoy its nightclub scene is during the summer months, as establishments start opening up as early as April.

During the winter, many clubs and bars cater to Croats and are difficult to find without the help of a local. However, some tourist-friendly bars and clubs in Split remain open all year. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Charlie’s Bar: A popular backpacker bar in Split’s Old Town and frequently on the route of many pub crawls, Charlie’s is an excellent starting point for cheap drinks and a young, international crowd. This bar’s buckets of beer and welcoming vibes are popular with guests, and it’s a great place to meet other travelers at any time of the week.
  • Fabrique Pub: Another local favorite, this busy bar and restaurant specializes in a wide range of craft beers and cocktails, as well as a selection of local wines and delectable food to accompany your drinking sessions. Fabrique is an excellent choice for dinner and drinks before moving on to the next pub.
  • Pun Kufer Cocktail Bar: If colorful, handcrafted cocktails in quirky bars (and Game of Thrones references) are your thing, Pun Kufer Cocktail Bar in the Old Town is the place to be on any given night.
  • Marvlvs Library Jazz Bar: This unique bar, geared toward a more mature clientele, combines jazz, literature, and high-quality drinks. This cozy bar is a lively but intimate spot to meet up with friends or take your Tinder date.
  • Academia Club Ghetto: An alternative bar with a dance floor, Academica Club Ghetto is another tourist favorite popular with locals. A unique decor and welcoming bartenders, Academica Club Ghetto is inclusive and also gay-friendly.
  • Central the Club: Outside the town, walls is Central the Club, where the city flocks after hours to enjoy this large, two-story club. This club is only open during the summer, but here, summer, fortunately, lasts until October.
  • Vanilla Club: Vanilla Club, located about twenty minutes outside of the Old Town, is a Split classic. The outdoor dance floor makes it a summertime favorite, but the party goes on all year with international music and excellent DJ sets moving indoors.
  • Klub Kocka: Kocka plays house, techno, and electronic music and is one of the best low-key clubs in town for immersing yourself in Split’s underground scene. It’s also open all year.

Travelers who’ve been around the Balkans will be in no shock to know that parties in Croatia begin and end with rakija— brandy made of fruit and typically drunk in shot form.

The strength of rakija is quite strong, even for the most alcoholic backpacker, so ease into this cherished beverage with a few glasses of Plavac Mali, Croatia’s national red wine that even rivals its across-the-sea neighbor, Italy.

Croatia also has a heavy beer culture, with Karlovako, Ojusko, and Pan being the country’s staples. One of the best things about Croatia is that no matter where you go, alcohol is cheap and readily available.
